what's your opinion on overwatch?
personally, I hate this game

it suffers by being a hero shooter and thus suffering from the typical hero shooter bloat where in order to add new content we have to add new heroes and thus create more and more complicated design that creates a huge dissonance between veteran and new players.

Also the design seems to have too many "this character shuts down this other character completely" architype which is never fun, but I could be wrong since I haven't followed the game since OW1.
The real real problem with the game though is that it like every other dumbass comp game in existence expects a high level of coordination and sacrifice from randos playing together when most people playing literally any shooter just wanna frag and the objective is secondary.

they actually just released a hero this season that is both insanely mobile, does not have any damage fall-off, and can two-shot with spam from any range

it was clearly inspired by tf2, but why the hell did the lean so hard into the completely made up competitive aspect? it would have been a lot cooler if they didnt, and if ults werent deciding the pace of the game. no i dont think ubercharge is very fun either, but most games people didnt care enough to have a medic that ruins everything.

i think that comes from the battlepass formula. At least for games like COD they'll put the new hot OP weapon in the battlepass to inspire you to buy and grind only to nerf the shit out of it and then next season to do it all over again.

made up in terms of TF2 or overwatch? Tbf I think tf2 always had an underlying "competitiveness" to it but it was just different from what people typically think of as competitive when it comes to team based shooters (i.e trying to win as much as possible)

whats wrong with uber? The stock uber is fairly innocuous imo, its design is just to break stalemates. There might be a point that defending ubers can be unfun

The majority of characters that are played in modern OW are super-long-range spam characters which shoot projectiles across the map and try to get luck kills with unlimited damage falloff

eg.

>Sojouirn
>Freya
>Hanzo
>Torb

It's normal for half+ of all kills in a game to be crossmap spam vaguely at head height, this is considered high skill gameplay by OWtoddlers

People that only play fomo shit migrated to rivals. But each passing month people are leaving rivals and going back to their previous games/fanbases. Valorant became infested with squeakers again.

when i played tf2 it seemed like the competitive aspect was some made up side thing for niche communities, while the nature of overwatch seems to be an attempt to capture that. the most glaring part being that it is locked into 6v6.

Feels like every new hero just throws the balance out the window, changes the meta and adds another layer of special effects, force fields, AOE, barrier, heal or whatever
I’ve been playing since 2019 and I feel like I just can’t be bothered to keep track of what the actual fuck is happening anymore since it’s so chaotic and disorganized it feels like 10 morons throwing shit at the wall and looking what sticks
I mostly main Mercy and glide around healing people with a blunt these days

The only thought I've ever had about Overwatch is that it's weird that Blizzard tried to make a team based extraction shooter out of pornography.

I still play it cause it's mindless fun as long as I dont start seething, after all despite the flaws its still the golden standard for hero shooters.

Look at Rivals, tried to copy ow so hard yet now it has barely more than 100k players.

its pretty fun, was trying to throw to bronze for a while to see firsthand all the dumb shit that goes on down there and got down to silver 4 a couple times but ended up getting all the way to plat 1, oops. its a difficult balancing act of making the "right" plays and still losing so you dont get reported. i briefly tried upping dpi to insane levels and lowering fov but its too obvious in replays i think.

Anyway, I haven't played it proper since the "release" of OW2. I really liked the game a lot back on the early days but blizzard kinda killed it for me. It might technically be a better game now but I can't muster up the will to play it for more than a day or two anymore.

it started with its own identity and then turned into a mobalike
then rivals came out and now there's no reason to play it

I stopped playing around the time Juno relased and moved on. Though, I am curious about their plans for custom games in S17 since those haven't been touched upon since OW1.

I hope we're getting Lúcioball again soon even if it's been fucked for years now.
