I myself enjoyed it despite being painfully aware of its massive shortcomings, simply because it nails down the fundamentals of Open ended level design or the subgenre it's catering too(IMSIM/DeusExBait). Unless you're a fan of the aforementioned then it's irredeemably bad. There are always games of any genre that are only relevant in that genre. It's nothing special if you remove it from the niche.

I'm still preferential towards it's jank

it wouldve been considered an instant immsim classic if it was on a proper game engine.

It's unique and story focus. I liked that it actually used It's rpg elements, but I got board before I got to the major mega city or whatever the fuck it was.

The only flaw I see is that it REQUIRES you to have a companion with you at the end of each chapter if you want them to level up skills that your player character doesn't have. This wouldn't really be a problem except for the fact that you won't know when the chapters end your first time playing and in some chapters they companion will leave your party right before the chapter ends, so you have to travel back and get them before beating the chapter or your game is fucked.

Also, to fix this for your game when the companion leaves due to poison sewage on the map, when you drain it, immediately drop everything and go back and get the one you want to level up. Alternatively, when they leave your party just copy the save files and load them in again if you miss their level up. Then the game is a 10/10 for my personal tastes.

Yeah it's the only major flaw I've found, I want to call it game breaking but I guess it's really not, if you play games like this though you probably want to scrounge for everything you can and if you are counting on a companion's skills to level up but you suddenly can't because the chapter ended and your save is overwritten it's fucked up. 2 seconds earlier you could go grab the companion but now you can't level them up because the chapter ended? That's shitty game design.
