What did you think of Metal Gear Solid V?
I live on my fully upgraded wildlife platform with my booba soldiers and afghan wildlife. I keep a tab open so that I can visit my pets and wild animals throughout the day. Mgsv is the cleanest game ever made.
Better gameplay than the PS2 games
kojima turned MGS into time sink slop that you play while listening to a podcast as mobile game like crafting timers tick down. Completely disposable and lacks any lasting impact for the MGS timeline.
Terrible level/open world design. Ground zeroes is amazing though.
>>712770943 (OP)> Only a handful of colours you can customize for your base.> Mother Base always looks pretty much the same. Customization is non-existent.> Gameplay is fun, but 90% of missions take place in boring repetitive locations.> Story is nonsense.> Metal Gear in MGSV is somehow more advanced than the one we see 20 years later.
>>712773438>Metal Gear in MGSV is somehow more advanced than the one we see 20 years later. That's because the only person who could operate Sahelanthropus had psychic power. Anyone could operate Rex.

>>712770943 (OP)Itโs a classic game that will always be loved and discussed. Greatest stealth gameplay of all time.
>>712771493Itโs a legit immersive sim and fuck anyone who says otherwise.
>>712773029It could have worked if your PC actually occupied areas in the world and you was taking over towns and building Zanzibarland and Outer Heaven, and it's kind of crazy that this isn't what the game was about considering that both maps are in the geographic region of the locations.
>>712770943 (OP)The online was a lot of fun but holy shit did that die fast.
>>712773867Metal Gear Zeke was more advanced than the later models too
>>712774981It's about optimizing your layout and you can do FOB for true challenge
>>712775161That probably would have bloated the budget even higher. Kojima was already being treated like shit because of how badly he went above budget.
>>712770943 (OP)That it shouldn't have been held back by the PS3 and XBOX360. It was a little disappointing here and there, but all in all I enjoyed it a lot. I hope someone will make a similar PMC simulator some day.
it's fine, dropped it the instant i finished chapter 1 and saw half the story missions after were just replaying old ones on hard
fun
but i hate how a lot of the difficulty comes entirely from how hard you restrict yourself
Crutch Tier: D-Dog. Amazing when you first get him. Once you've accumulated a certain degree of mastery, he stops being useful.
Crutch Tier 2: Quiet. I eventually stopped using her because she's kinda mediocre at most things.
No Traces Speed Run Tier: D-Horse. The only buddy that helps you maintain perfect stealth while also not slowing you down.
10/10 Fun Tier: D-Walker. No fucks given. Fuck stealth, I'm free as the fucking wind.
fun, but some missions are just ass to play on a fresh save (mainly anything involving the Skulls), so I just play it with my completed save and just bring tranq, C4, + basic camo.
gamepad controls rock... i roll, quickswap to a gat and pop the ruskies straight in their bellies.. no other stealth game has this badassery
>>712778485>knowing where everyone is stops being usefulthe vast majority of the missions you're better off using the box or sprinting everywhere
put 120hrs into my playthru and it was good except the stealth rating system that punishes u for being methodical was a joke, and then the game obviously missing 70% of its final act.
One of the best games ever made even in its somewhat incomplete state
>>712770943 (OP)Still the best third-person movement in a long while, likely the best of all time with the only real modern counterpart being Helldivers 2
MGO3 still remains fun and as a longtime PS4 player of it I'm happy to report that playing it on PC recently actually went absurdly well since it's much easier to counter faggots doing faggot weapon builds with a m+kb but I'll always rember the good times on ps4
Mods improve the game drastically and I'll still parrot that despite never using them (really need to try the Mother Base mod or whatever it's called)
Gun customization was fun even if a lot of it is just for fluff, always nice to go back to things you made and find new pieces to tack on or upgrade after getting some development done on a new playthrough
Damn fine difficulty and damn fine easy ways to bypass grinding, FOB missions like the Skulls one can be speedran in under a minute once you have a high R&D level and a good fuck-you weapon
I rate MGSV a 10/10 both for gameplay, what it accomplished on yesteryesteryear hardware, and for Quiet's juicy toes. Fuck you.
>>712770943 (OP)It was fun but I wish there was more to the PMC builder fantasy. I don't think it did enough to set it apart from Peace Walker in that regard.
One of those game where I wish companies would just push paid, extensive updates to old games. Now we're just getting a somewhat soulless remake nobody asked for, a multiplayer game mode pulled from MGO, that replaces MGO...
>>712779264If you play enough and just want to S-rank/No Trace everything, it's better to memorize the general placement and movement patterns of enemy patterns. Obviously, not everyone's gonna do this, but if you do play enough, you'll eventually reach a point where D-Dog isn't really necessary anymore.
This is why most perfect run strats use D-Horse instead of D-Dog, since D-Horse has more practical functions that will benefit you no matter what.
>>712775506The team that developed it was immediately laid off after the game released, so of course no issues with the online components could be smoothed out.
>>712770943 (OP)Unfinished husk of a potentially great game, ruined by Jewnami's tampering.
Clearly rushed out slop, that plays like Ubishit Far Cry, nothing like Metal Gear. There's never been a lack of quality in the past and present Kojima games, so it's obvious that it was the Kocknami's boomer CEO yakuzas that butchered the MGS5 project.

the game was clearly designed with controllerbabs in mind, the reflex mode slows down time to something like 0.1x and you'd be hard pressed to miss the headshot
i'd recommend to turn it off, it's legitimately so stupid it discourages stealth in favour of just running at enemies and shooting them with the slow mo
i played with it the first time and i recognised i was actually feeling entitled to those easy kills

4 unironically has better controls. I'm so sick of retards telling me more streamlined=better.
Can't even do the worm in V, what a joke. More like The Faggot Pain.
>>712784429The first Metal Gear was never operational either. It just sat in a room while laser cameras defended it.
Incredibly fucking fun gameplay with lots of freedom. As immersive as sims get. My only problem is how it was blatantly fucking unfinished and that you donโt really feel like a mercenary leader, I just felt like some schizo who kidnaps people to send them to die somewhere else or to do โresearchโ to craft me the same gun I already have but with a silencer
fun but there wasn't much to do on it
as an open world i prefer death stranding
as a story i prefer any previous mgs
>>712784675The first Metal Gear was the purest Metal Gear: it's the only one that was designed exclusively for the central purpose of being a bipedal nuke. Everything else is extraneous. The only reason subsequent Metal Gears were designed with more close/mid-range combat capabilities was because they kept getting blown up by a single infantryman, so it became necessary for them to be able to defend themselves.
>>712784865That was probably why Kojima decided not to create a better mg for 4. Arsenal+Ray is the logical end game from a military tech perspective - a carrier that launches bipedal amphibious nuclear equipped tanks.
>>712785012Nah, Arsenal Gear was as far as you can get from the main purpose of Metal Gears. The greatest trait of Metal Gears is that they're small and can be placed nearly anywhere. You can fire a nuke from a small off-shore PMC base, or you can sneak one onto enemy territory and fire one from there, framing them. They're highly versatile. Arsenal Gear is huge and unwieldy. It's way too obvious. At some point, the Patriots started to forget what the fucking point of Metal Gears were.
>>712770943 (OP)Just bought it and I'm playing Ground Zeroes right now, when should I move on to Phantom Pain? I just unlocked Deja Vu and Jamais Vu so I reckon I'm good after finishing these? Do you get any bonuses for finishing Hard mode?
Also should I play TPP with mods right away? I already played it on PS4 when it came out
>>712784659Only real ones still play 4 and enjoy tf out of Acts 1 and 2 on repeat.
>>712785368Yeah, would recommend to play with Infinite Heaven mod right away. Immensely enjoyable gameplay experience, fully customizable on the fly.
>>712770943 (OP)Great but unfinished.
>>712785334Arsenal Gear was meant to be the consolidation of nuclear power for the Patriots. It could effectively dismantle other Metal Gear states as a command center provided it was properly supported. It's a Metal Gear for a global cabal projecting their power over the world. Furthermore the true power projection from Arsenal Gear is its cyberwarfare capabilities and linkage to the Patriots' information network. The idea of Metal Gear is the ultimate weapon, and Arsenal Gear aims to solve that problem in a digital age.
>>712784865>Metal Gear ZEKE: Cobbled together using parts from Strangelove's machines. As a result, it had a bunch of features that weren't relevant to its core functions.>Metal Gear Sahelanthropus: Has no nuclear launch capabilities, couldn't be piloted by an adult human, had the weakest armor of any Metal Gear. A failure on every single front.>TX-55 Metal Gear: A small, mobile, bipedal nuclear launch platform. The purest Metal Gear with no extraneous features.>Metal Gear D: An upgraded TX-55 with close-range combat capabilities, likely deemed necessary due to the fact that Snake blew up the last one.>Metal Gear REX: Perhaps the pinnacle of all Metal Gears in the purest sense. Has the best nuclear launch capability, the best close-range combat capability, the best armor. If Otacon wasn't an autist who thinks military weapons should have "personality", it could have been perfect.>Metal Gear RAY: An anti-Metal Gear Metal Gear with no nuclear launch capability. Despite being designed to destroy REX-derivatives, it failed to defeat REX. The mass-produced models were easily destroyed by a single infantryman.>Arsenal Gear: Throwing away the original definition, it was designed to redefine the meaning of "Metal Gear". In that sense, it's the least pure of the Metal Gears.>Metal Gear Mk.II: Otacon is an autist.>IRVING/"Gekko": While possessing no nuclear launch abilities, it's arguably the most successful of all Metal Gear derivatives, being the only ones to enter proper military service.
>>712778485>Crutch Tier: D-Dog.That's me, not ashamed of it either. Fucking loved that pupper.

>>712785368If you want to keep it vanilla but having to do less soldier grinding I recommend immersive staff. I also like outfit refitting.

>>712787056Tranq sniper
Riot smg
Underbarrel granade launcher 7.62 rifle
That was what I used 90% of the time
>>712787056My playstyle is thus:
>Try not to engage the enemy at all where possible.>If you must engage, prioritize knocking them out.>If knocking them out starts being impractical, just use conventional weapons.Non-lethal weapons tend to be shitty. That said, I always try to do at least one non-lethal run.
>>712787056MGS3 and 4 have great support for playing without the guns outside of bosses. It spices things up since you have to approach dealing with patrols differently than you usually would. It's a lot harder in MGS2 without CQC but learning the dickpunch will help a lot.
>>712786485they also discussed the definition of it in MGR, cyborgs are essentially that period's Metal Gears while they get relegated to just being Unmanned Gears (UGs) like the RAYs and Gekkos. Even Excelsus has the Metal Gear label tacked on for branding, which is ironic considering the game itself is a spin-off.
>>712787056I think its because usually the past games always rewarded you for not killing but in 5, you can go in guns blazing and there's little consequences. I had that habit too plus abducting people became an addiction.
Admit it, you brought a tank too to the Quiet (Hard) fight. When you do that, it feels like a videogame boss fight from the perspective of the boss.
>>712787479Just drop a box on her head.
>>712787056Oh yeah. I never abandoned the WU (or whatever its called) and used it whenever I could. It's just that good.

Extremely disappointing by it.
Ground Zeroes was infinitely better. Every problem MGS5 has doesnt exist in ground zeroes.
>>712787215I'd like to do that but the advantages of putting them to sleep over a KO is absurdly unbalanced

>>712787692Huh. I haven't played in a while but I swear it did.
I don't know, I know I really don't like PPs score system because it let's you get S rank despite playing lethal.
S Ranks should be exclusively held for perfect stealth, no kills.
>>712787834The whole point of a stealth game should be leaving absolutely 0 evidence you were ever there. PP doesn't mind if you leave behind more she'll casings than footprints.
>>712787739She takes forever to die on Hard, and always kills you in one shot. I got fed up, called in a tank and blew her apart, her shitty rifle can do fuck all to heavy armor

>>712770943 (OP)Could have been a great game but blatantly ended up releasing unfinished. The open world is basically wasted on empty spaces and very basic outposts - I don't see what value the player is supposed to derive from free roam outside of the missions (LA Noire has the exact same problem). The missions are fun, but they get a little repetitive and the story is probably the shittiest of any mainline Kojima game.

>>712800660>>712780370>>712784732>>712785845These.
It could have been a 10/10 if it was finished. The end result is frustratingly incomplete.
The cutscenes dont get enough appreciation, Kojima did a hard reverse on the MGS dialogue dumps and went for a lot of subtle visuals instead. Most cutscenes have much different context on replays knowing the twist.
One I really liked is the mission where Mother Base gets taken over by ex-MSF soldiers who thought Big Boss betrayed them and abandoned them, which is basically what happened. Or Huey calling out Miller as the traitor, Venom wouldn't have known about that.
>>712770943 (OP)Great game but it's not a Metal Gear game
That being said, "unfinished" fags can neck themselves. The game is complete whether you like it or not.

>>712787564Not true at all. GZ still has TPP's problem of dicking around and not delivering with the plot, although neither are as guilty as PW. With literally every single Big Boss game post-MGS3, Kojima failed to deliver an actual confrontation with Major Zero. Instead, lazily relegating it to the fucking tapes. We didn't need Skull Face or any of the boring fucks from PW.
>>712802362Skull Face was good at the beginning before they explained him because he was so fucking evil it defied description.

>>712780578https://youtu.be/SUQVLXspXu0
>>712801020I know but waiting for the animations to play out sucks donkey balls
>>712787056It's a shame because there's a nice balance early on where your suppressors wear down fast enough that you'll not be able to tranq everyone in a large base without it breaking, and the tranq itself last short enough that you need to pick your targets in the right order.
I had one mission where I had to rescue a guy in a large base in Afghanistan, but by the time I'd gotten in undetected, people were waking up and my gun wasn't going to carry me out. Then a motherfucking sandstorm rolled in and provided enough cover for me to mostly run out the side door in the open and get to the nearest extraction point.
Does anyone know if there are good balance mods online? I'd love to play it again but make the whole game feel like that.
uninteresting story in a MGS game is criminal
somehow, it had the best trailers of any game (they showed all the cutscenes) and Kojima managed to trick us into thinking the story was good
Unironically the most hyped I've ever been for a video game.
>>712770943 (OP)>call helicopter>wait for it to land>get on helicopter>wait 30 seconds for the taking off animation>finally get to ACC menu>select mission>deploy>wait 1 minute for the chopper landing animation>finally landed>spend another minute getting to the mission area>repeat this like 100 more times throughout the gameI gave up cause of this tedious bullshit
7/10 that should've been a 10/10 but Konami wouldn't let Kojima spend all their money to do it. Still feels good to play and it has a lot of very very great music.
The biggest issue with MGSV and Death Stranding isn't even story related, it's their boring, repetitive mission structures and padding, it's a shame because both games have such great tools and gadgets to fuck around with but the actual content is bland as fuck, open world kills creativity.
