kojima turned MGS into time sink slop that you play while listening to a podcast as mobile game like crafting timers tick down. Completely disposable and lacks any lasting impact for the MGS timeline.

> Only a handful of colours you can customize for your base.

> Mother Base always looks pretty much the same. Customization is non-existent.

> Gameplay is fun, but 90% of missions take place in boring repetitive locations.

> Story is nonsense.

Crutch Tier: D-Dog. Amazing when you first get him. Once you've accumulated a certain degree of mastery, he stops being useful.
Crutch Tier 2: Quiet. I eventually stopped using her because she's kinda mediocre at most things.
No Traces Speed Run Tier: D-Horse. The only buddy that helps you maintain perfect stealth while also not slowing you down.
10/10 Fun Tier: D-Walker. No fucks given. Fuck stealth, I'm free as the fucking wind.

Still the best third-person movement in a long while, likely the best of all time with the only real modern counterpart being Helldivers 2
MGO3 still remains fun and as a longtime PS4 player of it I'm happy to report that playing it on PC recently actually went absurdly well since it's much easier to counter faggots doing faggot weapon builds with a m+kb but I'll always rember the good times on ps4
Mods improve the game drastically and I'll still parrot that despite never using them (really need to try the Mother Base mod or whatever it's called)
Gun customization was fun even if a lot of it is just for fluff, always nice to go back to things you made and find new pieces to tack on or upgrade after getting some development done on a new playthrough
Damn fine difficulty and damn fine easy ways to bypass grinding, FOB missions like the Skulls one can be speedran in under a minute once you have a high R&D level and a good fuck-you weapon

I rate MGSV a 10/10 both for gameplay, what it accomplished on yesteryesteryear hardware, and for Quiet's juicy toes. Fuck you.

If you play enough and just want to S-rank/No Trace everything, it's better to memorize the general placement and movement patterns of enemy patterns. Obviously, not everyone's gonna do this, but if you do play enough, you'll eventually reach a point where D-Dog isn't really necessary anymore.

This is why most perfect run strats use D-Horse instead of D-Dog, since D-Horse has more practical functions that will benefit you no matter what.

Unfinished husk of a potentially great game, ruined by Jewnami's tampering.
Clearly rushed out slop, that plays like Ubishit Far Cry, nothing like Metal Gear. There's never been a lack of quality in the past and present Kojima games, so it's obvious that it was the Kocknami's boomer CEO yakuzas that butchered the MGS5 project.

#FuckKonami, for 20 years now and counting.
They did to Team Silent what they later did to Kojima Productions.

the game was clearly designed with controllerbabs in mind, the reflex mode slows down time to something like 0.1x and you'd be hard pressed to miss the headshot
i'd recommend to turn it off, it's legitimately so stupid it discourages stealth in favour of just running at enemies and shooting them with the slow mo

The first Metal Gear was the purest Metal Gear: it's the only one that was designed exclusively for the central purpose of being a bipedal nuke. Everything else is extraneous. The only reason subsequent Metal Gears were designed with more close/mid-range combat capabilities was because they kept getting blown up by a single infantryman, so it became necessary for them to be able to defend themselves.

Nah, Arsenal Gear was as far as you can get from the main purpose of Metal Gears. The greatest trait of Metal Gears is that they're small and can be placed nearly anywhere. You can fire a nuke from a small off-shore PMC base, or you can sneak one onto enemy territory and fire one from there, framing them. They're highly versatile. Arsenal Gear is huge and unwieldy. It's way too obvious. At some point, the Patriots started to forget what the fucking point of Metal Gears were.

Arsenal Gear was meant to be the consolidation of nuclear power for the Patriots. It could effectively dismantle other Metal Gear states as a command center provided it was properly supported. It's a Metal Gear for a global cabal projecting their power over the world. Furthermore the true power projection from Arsenal Gear is its cyberwarfare capabilities and linkage to the Patriots' information network. The idea of Metal Gear is the ultimate weapon, and Arsenal Gear aims to solve that problem in a digital age.

>Metal Gear ZEKE: Cobbled together using parts from Strangelove's machines. As a result, it had a bunch of features that weren't relevant to its core functions.
>Metal Gear Sahelanthropus: Has no nuclear launch capabilities, couldn't be piloted by an adult human, had the weakest armor of any Metal Gear. A failure on every single front.
>TX-55 Metal Gear: A small, mobile, bipedal nuclear launch platform. The purest Metal Gear with no extraneous features.
>Metal Gear D: An upgraded TX-55 with close-range combat capabilities, likely deemed necessary due to the fact that Snake blew up the last one.
>Metal Gear REX: Perhaps the pinnacle of all Metal Gears in the purest sense. Has the best nuclear launch capability, the best close-range combat capability, the best armor. If Otacon wasn't an autist who thinks military weapons should have "personality", it could have been perfect.
>Metal Gear RAY: An anti-Metal Gear Metal Gear with no nuclear launch capability. Despite being designed to destroy REX-derivatives, it failed to defeat REX. The mass-produced models were easily destroyed by a single infantryman.
>Arsenal Gear: Throwing away the original definition, it was designed to redefine the meaning of "Metal Gear". In that sense, it's the least pure of the Metal Gears.
>Metal Gear Mk.II: Otacon is an autist.
>IRVING/"Gekko": While possessing no nuclear launch abilities, it's arguably the most successful of all Metal Gear derivatives, being the only ones to enter proper military service.

My playstyle is thus:
>Try not to engage the enemy at all where possible.
>If you must engage, prioritize knocking them out.
>If knocking them out starts being impractical, just use conventional weapons.

Non-lethal weapons tend to be shitty. That said, I always try to do at least one non-lethal run.

MGS3 and 4 have great support for playing without the guns outside of bosses. It spices things up since you have to approach dealing with patrols differently than you usually would. It's a lot harder in MGS2 without CQC but learning the dickpunch will help a lot.

they also discussed the definition of it in MGR, cyborgs are essentially that period's Metal Gears while they get relegated to just being Unmanned Gears (UGs) like the RAYs and Gekkos. Even Excelsus has the Metal Gear label tacked on for branding, which is ironic considering the game itself is a spin-off.

Could have been a great game but blatantly ended up releasing unfinished. The open world is basically wasted on empty spaces and very basic outposts - I don't see what value the player is supposed to derive from free roam outside of the missions (LA Noire has the exact same problem). The missions are fun, but they get a little repetitive and the story is probably the shittiest of any mainline Kojima game.

You do realize even if they're tranqed it's way better to wake them up and force them to lay down with their hands on their head? Because that's how you can keep them out of your way indefinitely unless the other tards find them but that goes for getting tranqed or knocked out too.

The cutscenes dont get enough appreciation, Kojima did a hard reverse on the MGS dialogue dumps and went for a lot of subtle visuals instead. Most cutscenes have much different context on replays knowing the twist.
One I really liked is the mission where Mother Base gets taken over by ex-MSF soldiers who thought Big Boss betrayed them and abandoned them, which is basically what happened. Or Huey calling out Miller as the traitor, Venom wouldn't have known about that.

Not true at all. GZ still has TPP's problem of dicking around and not delivering with the plot, although neither are as guilty as PW. With literally every single Big Boss game post-MGS3, Kojima failed to deliver an actual confrontation with Major Zero. Instead, lazily relegating it to the fucking tapes. We didn't need Skull Face or any of the boring fucks from PW.

It's a shame because there's a nice balance early on where your suppressors wear down fast enough that you'll not be able to tranq everyone in a large base without it breaking, and the tranq itself last short enough that you need to pick your targets in the right order.

I had one mission where I had to rescue a guy in a large base in Afghanistan, but by the time I'd gotten in undetected, people were waking up and my gun wasn't going to carry me out. Then a motherfucking sandstorm rolled in and provided enough cover for me to mostly run out the side door in the open and get to the nearest extraction point.

Does anyone know if there are good balance mods online? I'd love to play it again but make the whole game feel like that.

The biggest issue with MGSV and Death Stranding isn't even story related, it's their boring, repetitive mission structures and padding, it's a shame because both games have such great tools and gadgets to fuck around with but the actual content is bland as fuck, open world kills creativity.
