That's what makes the games retconning themselves to match the more egregious. In the films, the bomb doesn't work. The virus still escapes. And when see how much of the city is still standing, it kind makes sense. Capcom is trying to have their cake and eat it, too. They want to have the aesthetics of the films without the world building of the films.

Honestly I think my big problem with RE4R is not that it changes or reinvented things from the original, but that things feel weirdly paced. By the time a section is feeling like its got a concept or a puzzle or idea that picks up steam, it's done and never brought up again. Even in SPITE of the attempts to add hub and exploration elements to give more things to the game world. It's like despite the abundance of things split between the two campaigns, they're over with a lot quicker compared to the original. Am I going insane?

In the original games, the city was GONE. Annihilated. Wiped from the face of the earth. Nothing was left. In Outbreak, the game this is ostensibly a sequel to, the Umbrella scientists said that no human life could be sustained there.

RE9 has retconned this to make the city and its ruins look like the films instead of being a completely obliterated ruin. Rewriting the destruction of Raccoon City so it isn't actually destroyed anymore is not a small fucking retcon. It's a major fucking retcon that the films introduced almost a decade ago so they could have our heroes return to the ruins (and meet the people living there) and uncover the terrible secret about what actually happened.

Raccoon City isn't irradiated. It got vacuum bombed. Now the damages are probably inspired visually by the films, but Raccoon City was massively expanded into being an actual city with the remakes, versus a small suburban packed town the way the early games depicted it by its maps and stuff.

They have been grasping at straws since RE 6 and have been aimless in their goal. a skeleton crew that occasionally fights left over zombies. Couldn’t care less about this game. I just wish they would stop doing “‘member dis shit?” with Outbreak. It just keeps reigniting the port / remake begging going which are made worse by the Nvidia Now leaks from years ago which listed Outbreak as a coming game. Either say you are never going to do shit with the series or throw a port out on something.
