Because there is nothing to talk about, it's pure corporate slop designed by a committee. Everything about it mid, it's not offensively bad but it's not good either, there is nothing polarizing or controversial, nothing to get mad about, it's not a giga flop to laugh at. The most attention this series got is when people started comparing Alloy to Nicocado

>hello aloy i need help my sister is missing i'll mark it on your map
>go to the spot fight robots find sister escort her for a bit
>gee thanks aloy you helped my sister
>no problem happy to help goodbye
Uninteresting game, it's regular in its genre of checklist ubiworld. /v/ didn't play it and has no idea what the game is like inside. The main character has as much personality as link from zelda.
The map itself might be beautiful to roam and look at but the game part of the game is so bland, by the book, inoffensive, as if the whole game was filler content. It's like a best of compilation of other open world without a single original bone under its seemingly unique skin made of robot dinos.
It was unfortunate it was a waste of worldcrafting if you ask me.

The second game added a flying mount mechanic, how cool, looking forward to a simulated feeling of vertigo. Except the textures wouldn't load fast enough so the stiff flyer flies very slowly. But we can pretend like it's a cool mechanic. I'M FLYING.

Iโ€™ve finished it in 2023 and still canโ€™t fucking describe it

Itโ€™s like you fed an AI a prompt for the most barebones scifi world

I unironically enjoyed Horizon.
Horizon 2 was bigger and looked prettier, but CONSTANT "hint" dropping by Aloy talking to herself was annoying as shit and kept breaking the immersion. And then they anounced the DLC and the first thing they said about it was that they made Aloy into a dyke and unironically the biggest part of why I liked Aloy as a character was because she wasn't overly politicized. Sexuality just wasn't part of her story in any way because she was just trying to survive a savage world so there was no time for it and she wasn't a Mary Sue, most people didn't trust her, she had to exert a ton of effort to convince anyone, constant kept failing and struggling so it was a believable experience.
And then trannoids got their hands on the studio, and immediately had to turn her into a mansplaining turbodyke. If there is such a thing as Horizon 3, I will not be buying it.

Because they were a complete waste of what was potentially a decent IP. Mechanically the game was entertaining enough, and the setting conceptually was solid, but it was all let down by some of the worst writing and characterization possible.

For me it's the myriad villagers, they are such sidequest characters. I didn't believe these people. They each acted like that fake friend in an MMO with a crafted personality who's trying too hard to be somebody. I guess writing people is difficult.
The irony of Sylens coming off as the most alive person on screen. He must have been one of those actors.

These games feel like they could have been generated by AI, it's the most generic sandbox game around . The only slightly unique thing about it is the lore, which is wasted on dogshit characters and story.

He's completely right on that, if you play the game you see Aloy not being a girlboss at all or even opinionated about anything. Very mild personality. She doesn't hate on anybody, she never makes statements, she's not excited about fighting robutts or saving the world, she's on antidepressant. She doesn't fight the patriarchy either, she HELPS everyone equally forever. /v/irgins don't know.

Brother I played through the entirety of Horizon 1 and I think it is you who didn't actually play it if you don't remember how much of an opinionated girlboss Aloy was. The only reason she wasn't front and centre in the girlbossing was because there were other bigger bossier girlbosses already doing that before she got her chance. Nor was her writing even consistent. Like the whole point the AI banked on her fulfilling her role was believing in her curiosity would lead her to the main questline. But instead she merely stumbles into everything by chance rather than it being any logical conclusion based on her supposedly innate curiosity. She was a badly written character in an even worse written game.

Definitely inflated by being pushed as a flagship IP and console bundle sales. But it was never really relevant and only saw a real resurgence in interest once the remaster released on PC. Forbidden West shit the bed by being PS5 exclusive, and after people saw how bad it was there was no interest once PC release rolled around. And especially not at the price Sony was asking. Despite all this they still seem intent of trying to push it as some sort of relevant IP with various plans for it.

Fair point, I meant console exclusive since the issue was despite decent sales of HZD on PC they just decided to ignore the PC market when launching the sequel. Which only hurt them more in the end.

What i'd so is throw the whole story out the window, throw the characters out, throw the RPG elements out, the sidequests out and make the game about archeology. We'd venture out into the wilds and pilfer ancient hard drives, usb sticks, and connect to hidden terminals to siphon mundane data about the old world: patent blueprints, wikipedia articles, excerpts from random forum threads and private conversations, news articles, application config files. I think that would be more interesting loot than crafting materials.
Of course the dangerous robots are lurking everywhere. They don't need fancy justifications about a rogue AI and a group of scientists doing drama in the past or aliens coming to reclaim the earth. Acquire knowledge for the village / The eco-robots will attack: End of story. Really.
A sort of high production 3D openworld dungeon crawler with the dungeon being whichever part of the map the player hasn't been to yet.

In the interest of ludonarrative resonance, i say if the game is about cleaning out the map then make the gameplay about about cleaning out the map as well. And then the game ends nothing wrong with that if the fun was had.
