you arent properly curving your flames and im not joking, you have to aim your flames in the direction theyre going and strafe around them. 90% of pyros dont expect you to do anything but flail around like they are so if you just do the bare minimum of trying to throw off their aim while optimally curving your flames on them you will win pretty much ever pyro v. pyro fight in casual. t. 10k hours+ pyro main

Only Soldier, Demo, Medic, and Spy are really annoyed by this. And Demo and Spy are already countered by Pyro, so it really doesn't matter. So what's the issue?

You know what? The detonator is a fucking hipster weapon. It's a worse version of the scorch shot that takes more "skill" to use because it artificially sucks ass when compared to the scorch shot. Pedantic contrarians treat it as the pinnacle of skill when its really just a weapon that the scorch shot can outperform every single time. Don't listen to the hipsters telling you to use the detonator, just use the fucking scorch shot.

Only when going for direct hits against burning targets which are likely in close range because usually people who get lit by flare gun from long range by chance run to nearby medkit instead of standing around. Not to mention flare gun is hard to aim post jungle inferno with no predictable trajectory and airstun, you really are better of holding mouse 1 with flame gun or using shotgun in close range instead of gambling on a petty 90 damage.

I never understand why people bother going for the whole 90-damage setup with the flare gun instead of just whipping out the shotgun and hitting someone for like 86 damage or whatever ever time, on command.

flare punching is fun and not dependent on range or spread. it's a midrange burst option useful for fleeing scouts for example

As I said, airblast used to put victim in the exact same slow and predictable trajectory with air movement stun regardless of your aim angle every single time in old tf2. Basically guaranteed 90 damage against anyone in airblast range. Combine this with 0.2 second global switch speed of old degreaser (old tf2 had a global weapon switch of like 0.6 second or something instead of the current 0.5 second mind you) you got yourself an easy to perform almost guaranteed combo. Far easier than shooting at people with shotgun.
Old pyro was seriously easy mode now that I think about it. 195 damage melee (axtinguisher), minicrit shotgun (reserve shooter), airblast always behaves exactly same and stuns air movement for easy follow ups. Really glad braindead combos are gone.

Because you can nuke down a Heavy in 4 hits from a range that his minigun does chip damage to you. The scorch shot takes FOREVER to take down a heavy with its pitiful 20 damage per shot. And you never get the double bounce, since unlike Snipers, they don't just stand in one spot like a retard.

Medium range. Once you hit consistent flares it becomes absolutely the best secondary for pyro.
The flaregun only being usable with the old airblast is the biggest, dumbest and most parroted meme that's absolutely false for people who actually play the game.
Airblast people into walls, into corners, just airblasting in general disorients them enough to basically guarantee a flare crit. The projectile is extremely fast and all you need is a second or two to see what direction whoever you lit on fire is running to get the hit. It's harder than before because before it was more braindead than using the reserve shooter, that's doesn't make it impossible now.
The range at which the shotgun is most effective is the range where the time switching from your primary will cost you the kill, might as well keep M1ing. The scorch is a dogshit meme weapon only good for getting phlog charge.
The one thing that the shotgun excels at is killing other pyros but might as well pick another class if that's a common enough occurrence.

Its also good for hitting snipers across the map since they're usually standing in front of a wall, and the explosion range gives you a bit of leeway. Aside from making them cry and run to the respawn locker, it doesn't really do much with just 20 base damage + afterburn.

But it deals like 8 extra damage per hit in comparison to the scorch shot. You're not looking at the upsides, anon.
