Not OP, but I replayed it somewhat recently and I really disliked the combat. And how frequent combat section are.
My plan was to replay the entire trilogy, but I dropped Warrior Within halfway through because I wasn't having fun.

Picrel should be right up my ally because I like every classic crpg like BG2, ToEE, Planescape Torment and Arcanum but I just find the combat so fucking boring. Doesn't help that I already know everything about the world and the characters through osmosis so there's no novelty for me either.

As a fan of the games this is a valid complaint. It isn't a very exciting combat system. Probably one of the reasons why Two Thrones is my favourite. Speed Kills are fun even if they're also repetitive.

The problem this game has is that you've seen everything it has to offer by the time you get to the first fountain thing. It never does anything different from what you've done by then, which was just simple platforming and boring combat. The time powers are cool on paper, but they're pretty damn basic too and underutilized.

It works actually, but you have to set it up manually from the options. Xinput wasn't a thing yet, people used all sorts of third-party peripherals to play games.
The only downside is that in-game prompts show as "Button 6" or "Button 13", instead of "Triangle" or "R1".

RE4 sucks. No, not in a "it's a good game just not a good resident evil game" way. I mean even for an action game it fucking sucks. Stopped playing after the 2nd boss and never felt the need to pick it up again. Just flat out boring in every conceivable way.

I kinda agree.
Back then, playing PoP and hitting the time rewind button was kino because it felt new. The boring combat was just the filler between time rewind and parkour shenanigans.
Same for Max Payne for example. It's a really basic shooter, but the bullet time was mindblowing when it came out.

Nowadays, those kino moments lost their luster, and so if you replay them you end up with interesting moments that were iterated on a million times sprinkled on top of gay mechanics. It just doesn't hit the same.

didn't play BB, DS3 ruined basically the entire rpg aspect and made it rollslop. I was heavy guy or range mage, neither is possible in ds3. No armor, no shield, no footsies allowed - only i-frame roll which i didn't even use before it.

Yeah, the levels feels like they drag and are unfocused, constantly spamming high speed sequences with no substance. Meanwhile special rings are extremely well hidden and can't be found by just walking left, which is - who is that even for? Just let me have my emeralds

All the praise comes from the platforming but the combat has you using only 2 strategies and just fighting either zombie soldiers or bats. Warrior Within seems like a much stronger entry but I just started it recently, it has a better combat system with combo strings and more enemy varieties. The Prince seems much cooler now too since he's got more battle experience and he's voiced by Robin Atkin Downes instead of Yuri Lowenthal which sounds much better.

I'm OP. I can usually play older games and enjoy them for what they are, I just finished GTA 3, McGee's Alice, and Half Life recently and enjoyed myself. I'm struggling with SoT a lot slow as it's just fine platforming with slow+bland combat. I just did the boss fight(?) against the Prince's dad now which was a slog. Apparently I'm already 17% done according to my save file but I'm unsure if I want to keep going, let alone check out the rest of the trilogy.
