Downgrade. Id was so offended by players exercising choice they had to try to force weapon switching, and still failed since 9 out of 10 encounters are still just SS and Ballista/Gauss Cannon. Complicated levels were too intimidating, so Id just made shitty linear hallways and shitty boring arenas. Id trusted the player so little the game has to show a 5 second unskippable cutscene of the 2 doors opening in said arenas, and there are a shit load of arenas. Pointless platforming. Abandonment of all sincerity and balls deep into ironic "awesomeness." And then because resource management was too complicated, Id just made everything cooldown based, so the player can never actually run out any resource.

Oh, and worst sin of all, it is actually fucking slower than 2016. Sure, some retards were fooled by speed lines on dash and that all enemies always move towards the player instead of actually having a mixture of behavior between ranged and melee enemies which makes it feel like things are moving faster, but it doesn't change the fact that it is actually much slower.

I ragequit at foundry because I had to find 4 well hidden keys in a god damn giant map, no clues, no hints as to where the keys are, you can just 'miss it' and you'll never have a clue or a hint that you did. Foundry is a bullshit stage

I did have a lot of fun pounding my head against UNM this last weekend but there's a few things that make it seem like an afterthought. It very quickly highlights a lot of shit that never should've been in the game at all.

To add on and bump, I probably think id software should've fired their animators and environment artists. Too much of that stuff messes with the otherwise smooth gameplay. Cutscenes should all be skippable without question. That shit becomes baffling when you're locked into the same Half-Life 2 cutscene room for the 10th time that day.
Also learned that the melee attack is literally a short-range teleport. You can melee straight through level script triggers and even some attacks. Only as long as the melee connects at close enough range. And as always, glory kills are terrible.
