how are they survival games if they have no hunger or any survival mechanics?

>hunger
The most useless of all mechanics. If you want your players to eat, create a desire for them to want the buffs food should provide, Debuffing them or slowly kill them because they didn't maintain a food cycle is fucking stupid.

without it it's not a survival game just an open world action adventure like Skyrim (which has a survival mode anyway)

That's just a point against alleged survival games: survival isn't actually an obstacle or point of the game. Having to keep yourself fed makes a lot more sense as a mechanic if finding enough nutritious food isn't completely straightfoward (and starving to death takes a better part of a month).

enshrouded isnt really a survival game at all. hunger is an optional afterthought that doesn't affect your playstyle at all. there's some resource gathering mechanics, but unless you're trying to make a ton of pretty houses and decorations, you'll spend less than 5% of your time getting resources. it's much closer to something like elden ring than skyrim than it is to valheim. probably the main similarity between enshrouded and valheim is the home building mechanics

>>712809594
enshrouded is a coop adventure game. the point is the adventure and treasure

Why is hunger always such a focus in these games?
You dont need to eat every fucking 2 minutes just to stay alive
I dont care if its a videogame, managing hunger meters is just busywork
Atleast make eating somewhat interesting, like in SCUM where you "kinda" have to think about what you put in your mouth
Survival games have so much to pick when it comes to creating interesting game mechanics it but eating is such a low hanging fruit its actually just a rotten apple resting on the ground

Valheim has had one of the worst update cycles I've ever seen. 4 years and we're not even at 1.0.
And there's a ton of gaps of gear and content in the game. The plains have NO DUNGEON.
The mistland is fucking NASTY and SHITTY.

And they have the gall to tell the playerbase the snarkiest shit ever. Fucking useless. Even bethesda doesn't rely this much on their modding community to wipe their own ass for them.

with swedes theres 0 reason to expect any kind of real update to a game once it gets any kind of popularity. when the swede gets even a hint of money, it gains an ego and never really puts in any real effort again. valheim made so much money that the devs are just on permavacation and only come out to cast ridicule on the people who bought the game

also ftr valheim is made in unity so their dev time requirement for implementing shit is probably like, 20-40% of what it would be proprietary engine devs like the enshrouded guys. and enshrouded is like 3x bigger than valheim in terms of pretty much everything except smoke physics. i'd wager a guess that each valheim team member only spends an average of about 20 minutes a day working on the game, at most.

theres more examples but those are the ones that started to ooze seething contempt for their playerbase and go on vacations as soon as they gained any success. they only go on a "redemption arc" when they run out of money and need success again, and then go right back to coasting if they succeed

honestly, considering most of the groundwork is already done, it should take them literally like a month to add a new biome with placeholder assets, and another 2-3 months to test it and finalize it. ive worked in a similar size dev team and one of the most common feedback we got was "how are you guys putting out updates so quickly?" when we were all just working at a normal pace. the games industry audience is just buck broken to think it takes a year to copy & paste some unity prefabs and change the numbers a bit

You know what Valheim's problem is? Genuinely?
Early Access model.
The developers made a fucking fortune way too early way too quick and after years in development they've blown most of that on hookers and blow.
Why the FUCK would they finish the game when they already got theirs?
People don't shit on Early Access enough. Seriously it's a fucking epidemic of this abysmal industry.

Latest dungeon added was ice caves and frankly, aside from gathering fenris hair (or whatever they're called) for the armor you can entirely skip them

i am european. everyone here has work life balance. but its really specifically game dev where people begin coasting as soon as they can get away with it. like, they wont even do their job as a hobby. it doesnt even really make sense why a passionate game dev like notch would completely give up that up in favor of becoming depressed, fat and bald on twitter

I think they just went travelling after getting all the money.
Notch sold Minecraft because he didn't have a strong vision for what the game should become in the long run, yet people wanted it to be updated forever.
But he does enjoy working on *something* so he quickly regreted it.

what "work life balance" mean, and what this fag is really saying, is that 90% of Europeans jobs are so worthless in actuality, they can afford to take half the year off on vacations, because almost every nation in western Europe is essentially funded and protected by America to be our little tourist locations.

you're ants in terrarium, you have ZERO real value.

>is that 90% of Europeans jobs are so worthless in actuality
most jobs everywhere except the third world are worthless. they have been since the industrial revolution. the only thing we *really* need are food, medicine, housing and clothes, and most of that shit is imported anyway. pretty much everything else is just people fucking around and getting paid for it to maintain societal cohesion through low unemployment and wealth equality.

the US has probably the highest pretend job percentage in the world because the dollar is the world reserve currency and thus it is economically nonviable to export anything, except treasury bonds and printed dollars. but US citizens love to grind so they work 70 hour weeks at their consultancy firms which actually produce nothing of real value lol
