Its probably not much more than that in reality, but all these analytics companies legitimately use social media and stuff like trophy/achievement data cause they have nothing actually real.
The only places that actually publish info are

10 years ago you would have people use SteamSpy or VGChartz as "real" sources.

Yeah, because the numbers they throw around are estimates stitched together from scraps—trophy data, Twitter engagement, and anime avatars screeching on Reddit. Half the time it’s analysts coping with the fact that Square Enix hasn’t put out a universally loved FF title since like... X? Maybe XII if you're generous? Nothing concrete unless it's from the Fiscal Report or Famitsu charts, and even then it’s cherry-picked. It's all vibes and spreadsheets now.

The last Final Fantasy game I was excited for was XII which was nearly two decades ago. I don't understand how it's being so mismanaged.
