I think the problem was that
1. Kids are too fucking lazy to build shit physically, they don't even like building Lego and taking it apart unless it's a video game like Minecraft or Roblox.

2. It's hard to put away. You need some dedicated box to put away the sets and store them.

3. Not enough focus on the actual cartridge and software.

4. LABO VR didn't do much besides a few stereoscope demos and Breath of the Wild in stereoscope 3D.

Nintendo Labo is responsible for launching the soijacks into the mainstream. Before Labo you had a single soijack that was sometimes used. After Labo it launched so many spin-offs it took over /qa/ and the rest is history.
