that was my initial reaction too - but the more I think about the game and the more I discuss it with others, my opinion of it rates higher. I still don't think it's a masterpiece, because the plot particularly in Acts 1 and 2 has serious problems in the first playthrough.

I'll hold my final judgement at the conclusion of my second playthrough.

The game does try to tell you just barely enough breadcrumbs to keep you interested, perhaps to a fault. It was fun speculating what the fuck the setting was all about with friends, otherwise I might have become annoyed

Not at all. It has a lot of flaws.
Balance is non existent, and the action mechanics get in the way of the RPG elements. There are no builds, no jobs, no real elements integrated in the battles, its just dodge/parry with tons of lumina stacked. The side content is repetitive or downright boring. Game design is lackluster in general, the lack of minimap and proper visual reading makes exploring places a chore. The story loses its meaning by the end of act 2 and the post content is downright unbalanced, just like FFX. Sciel and Lune get completely tossed aside for the teenager, the new guy verso and the family you are not emotionally invested in, more like they force you to care. The story completely forgets about Gustav as well.

I still liked the game but people really got brainwashed by this game, and the fact that people are setting it as an standard is just downright depressing. I truly, truly hope they just let exp33 be and not try to emulate it.

Dark souls games generally get away without it because they are short, readable places. You know when you are going forward or backwards.

do you know what "readibility" is? i swear i got the term right, maybe it is another word.
The thing is it doesnt matter if the map is generally linear, the map tries to hide it by making it really busy to look at. It is exhausting.
One of the most obvious examples of this is the forbidden woods in bloodborne. It was generally a normal map, but the readibility was TERRIBLE, you take far too much time making sure you are going the right way because the assets distribution and the colors make it exhausting.

I was interested in Baldur's gate 3 but then i saw that the only thing people spoke about was the sex and nothing of the gameplay. Also, apparently Baldur's gate 3 was filled with millenial reddit writing, similar to Divinity OS2 (a game i actually like) but worse, so i didnt get it.

What do you want to know? Exp33 wasnt really pozzed. As for the combat, the idea is fine but the balance is terrible. You wont really care about the RPG mechanics, you are mostly just gonna be learning enemy attacking patterns to dodge/parry. Thats primarly the biggest problem with the game.
