6 fans still want the game to be respected and don't like the directions that 7 built on 6.
They liked that Kefka was a dark twisted psychopath over Sephiroth being a tragic pretty boy, They liked that there were multiple protagonists separated in importance between acts over Cloud being being developed between different acts.They really liked WoR but FF7 doesn't have an equivalent, they liked characters still having their jobs around their magicite, etc.
Also, to appreciate how influential FF6 was you'd at least need to play FF4 to see where the series is coming from, FF7 fans exist in a bubble away from early FF where FF8/9/10 are just too 'different' so I don't think they appreciate just how influential FF6 was.
