3. I followed some friends to Freeport from Qeynos. In the commons there is a wandering NPC Darkelf Dragoon and I thought it was a player. "Hey dude nice armo.." Had to run back alone without SOW. Felt like I was playing a stealth game dodging all the monsters. Just alone in the Karanas with the quiet ambience, the sound of wind and the constant paranoia of lions and shit jumping you.

I fell off the boat in Timorous Deep on the way to Kunark and freaked out because of how huge and empty all the deep water was. I had no idea how to get out but I remembered people talking about a secret room on the ocean floor that could teleport you to a city, so I spent two hours swimming around looking for it before I saw those wizard spires poking out of the water. When I ran from Freeport to the Karanas (before the Halloween patch that made nighttime Kithicor a death trap for the uninitiated) to meet up with my RL friend's warrior. I was level 12 or so and he was 17. I got aggro from a giant or cyclops in EK, and he knew the way to the bridge, but I didn't, and I had no chance of living anyway. I reappeared at my bind point in GFay and nearly lost my collective shit. RIP, I miss my childhood friend.

I have a lot of attachment to Greater Faydark and Crushbone after playing Wood Elves for so long. Also, Erenshor dev added floating ? quest markers and a minimap in an update today after saying they wouldn't be put in. So much for emulating EQ, though I guess that's to be expected when they shied away from death penalites

There is no real big story but if you enjoy lore you can find a lot. Check out Youtube's Everquest Lore vids.

Soloing CAN be done but it's very class specific and can be risky. If not also extremely boring as you're usually in a choice area, away from most people farming a singular re-spawning mob.

If you do wanna solo play a Druid or a Necromancer. Druids get speed spells to run faster (probably the most useful spell in the game, spirit of wolf) and they have DoTs and DD spells that let them run people around and shit on them.

Necros are almost all dots but they have pet's that can tank while you apply them. Often though your mana is so tight that if you miss a spell or two you need to run to the zone to reset aggro and not die.

If you can find 1 friend (or I think they have NPC bodyguards or some shit now) do a Shaman/Monk and you can take out some of the end game bosses now.

The UI in EQ1 and EQ2 is full of microtransaction buttons in every window. I hadn't played EQ2 in over a decade and a half and tossed all my physical copies of the game (not like the DVDs matter nowadays when you're only able to install via download)... it was time to stop clinging to the past.

As a young faglet I went to Befallen seeking a bone bladed claymore (which I kept calling a BBC because I didn't know what it meant). I fell down the well, died, and couldn't get my corpse. I kept /shouting for a necro to summon my corpse (unaware of the reagent cost) to no avail. Eventually a half-elf paladin named Draycon showed up and offered to drag my corpse out. He asked what the fuck I was doing in the zone at level 9 or whatever and I told him. He said alright, be right back. He comes back a few minutes later with my corpse in tow and then opens trade and hands me a Bone Bladed Claymore.
I immediately went and rerolled to half elf paladin (badass helmet) which I played for the rest of my time in EQ. Ended up eventually getting a fiery defender with friends who were way older than me. I 100% believe that EQ and then WoW made me a decent leader, public speaker, and problem solver. They also probably ruined my life but it was worth it.

That was such a fun time. The newbie areas were warzones but I like how intense it got at higher levels with guilds ambushing other guilds and the constant fear of being fugged.

Combat was awful though for warriors. Anyone could run and at best you had to shoot them with low damage arrows.

A warrior is hard as fuck to solo because your overall damage is very low.

At most you'll slowly grind weaker/lower level mobs and it will take a longgggg time. Warriors are best with a group.

For solo you want a Necro or a Druid.
