NEXT FEST IS OVER
Top 50 demos are here, naturally, we didn't play any of them because we are counterculture to the core.
You can say what's good and what was bad and whine about how you didn't have enough time to play them all. The latecomers can try get in on the action but they're pretty much too late.
And in many more months from now, we can do this all again.
IT'S TIME TO F-F-F-F-FISH
This was my last Nextfest. The doomposters really spoke doom to me and now I'm a doomposter. I'm joining the dark doom side.
>>712854109 (OP)>we didn't play any of them because we are counterculture to the core.speak for yourself, I wasted hours on my life playing dead as disco with music from Baldr Sky, Umineko and Katana Zero
Other than that yeah, haven't played any of the games in the top 50. Project Turboblast, MotionRec, Sinker Sound, Paralldox and Bits and Bops kept me occupied.
No you can't have the links to the last threads, it's over. you missed it. don't even try. you will never play dimhaven.
Project Turboblast and Giggleland not being in there is quite surprising.
I guess Dispatch and BallxPit made it in there. so a few. but majority is yeah, no, completely different.

>>712792130I looked into the games you posted since I typically get a higher good game ratio than trying to find myself. This one though....
>https://store.steampowered.com/app/2592160/Dispatch/In the first five minutes they mention "diversity is our strength." I continued on and every villian just about was a white male. The "good guy" team only had one, two counting the main player character.

I didn't like Moonlighter 1.
And I didn't even try Moonlighter 2's demo because of it. But now I've heard that a lot of Moonlighter 1 fans are unhappy with Moonlighter 2 because of the many changes made to both combat and shopkeeping. So I looked up some footage of it and it actually does look a lot more interesting to me.
But I'm kind of worried that I'll just be wasting my time again like with the first game.
Am I making a mistake if I try the demo?
>>712855132Literally who plays porn games on steam? That's just fucking gross

>>712854109 (OP)Posting this for the last time.
Two demos left in my backlog, but I think I'm done for today. If they aren't gone tomorrow (or I set up goldberg for them), I'll try them. If not -- no biggie. I know Parkside is good, and I like Corpus Edax, but I'm just not feeling it anymore today.
My takeaways:
Buy on release:
Slyders -- roguelite FPS, yeah-yeah, I know, but I enjoyed it as much as I did Roboquest. To anon who claimed it becomes "Serious Sam-like" with S+LMB -- you just suck. After a couple of first levels I'm rushing until every single fucker is dead.
Pigface -- I like Hotline Miami vibes and the idea of speedrunning individual levels. Reminds me of The Club which I never got to experience fully because of how bad the PC port was.
Buy on sale:
Hark the Ghoul & Verho -- new strange breed of souls inspired first-person RPGs. They might not be the greatest games out there, but the novelty hasn't worn off yet, so I want to jump on it before the definitive game comes out.
Inventorix -- I think those are called balatro-like now? Building crazy combos to beat an arbitrary score goal, but instead of cards it's inventory management. I liked Backpack Hero, so it's right up my alley. Also don't even try Backpack Hero on switch, controls are so butchered it's not even funny.
Under the Island -- I'm now regretting selling my deck earlier this year, would be a perfect game for that. It's a Link to the Past clone, you know how it goes. My only complaint is that the music is not good. Very generic, sounds like royalty free shit.
After Inc Revival -- a city builder that I hope just comes out on mobile so I can play it on the tablet laying in bed. Reminds me of Townsmen and damn I miss that series.

I did not participate in Nextfest because I kind of hate playing demos and would rather just experience the games first hand when they come out. The only demo I played recently was Dispatch because I can't wait for that game and simply couldn't resist (and have been really hungry for news of its release date, which we still don't have)
With that said, I thank you for making these threads and particularly this thread so that I can go look at these stats now.
>Dispatch
Had already played this demo before the Fest. Very excited for this. Might turn out to be the best Telltale style game ever.
>Ratatan
Hope the demo for this was good. Want to try this out when it comes out.
>Hell is Us
This one is gonna depend entirely on the reception it gets when it comes out. The way they're marketing it appeals to me, but I need the gameplay to be good and the area design to be consistent all the way through before I go through with playing it. Even if I played the demo and thought it was good, I wouldn't be convinced.
>Absolum
Woah. Never heard of this before, but I'm interested. Added to my wishlist.
>Baby Steps
I'll watch streams of it
>Mina the Hollower
Can't wait for this.
That's all that is of interest in that list. Is there some sort of poll with all of /v/'s favorite demos? Would like to check out the pages.

or maybe something with a cute girl
Only played two demos but I just kept replaying them. Will look at some demos in this thread.
>Rogue Point
The first original game from the Black Mesa devs. It's a tactical shooter like SWAT mixed with rouge lite elements in the levels. You play a campaign, have to spend in-game money to create a loadout, and then do the mission. Doing things in the missions (killing in certain ways, healing, finding items, etc.) give you cash for use in future missions in the campaign. If you wipe twice the campaign is over and you have to restart from the beginning.
It's biggest issue is that it doesn't know if it wants to be a slower tactical title or an arcade shooter with tactical game elements. You're encouraged to use non-lethal takedowns for extra cash, but you don't have access to them at all outside of a CS:GO weapon lottery system ($1,000 of the in-game cash for a spin) and every mission is timed so you need to the objective done fast. The AI is also really rigid so even if you unlock the stealth items, you're ending up just swarmed because they hear everything no matter what (I genuinely think they're either broken or stealth isn't a thing).
It's rough but fun enough. I hope that they'll nail down what they want to do and fix the shit AI, but I'm not buying on launch.
>Project Turboblast
Picked it up today and played about 30 minutes of it. Definitely fun and easy to get into, just another F-Zero like high speed racer. I kept bumping into the side of the track on the second track, Vines is my favorite so far. My only issue with it is that the boost spam is intended and it hurts you hand after a bit. It's actually why I put it down. I'll buy it when it goes on sale after launch but only if they do more singleplayer stuff and make it so I don't have to hurt my thumb to get 1st.
>>712856060>Is there some sort of poll with all of /v/'s favorite demos? nope, although an anon in the last thread said he wanted to keep track of the demos people like for the next next fest so there's at least a list

>SSRWives
Solid Silent Hill 2 clone. I like these kinds of games.
>Holstin
Another meat and potatoes survival horror. Reminded me of that lesbian space game.
>Brutal John 2
A "boomer shooter" that is actually good. I'll be picking this one up later.
>The Czar is Dead 2
The anon who said this was like having a nightmare about playing games was right.
>Distant Flux: System Initializing
A weird text-based game. Seemed like a bunch of pseudo-deep systems and the organ music began to get on my nerves.
>PARKSIDE: DECAYED SOUL MANIPULATION
It's just a crappy version of Deus Ex. No reason to play this if you have Deus Ex, which is like a dollar.
>The RPG
Goofy silly Skyrim-lite. Not for me. Video game "jokes" are cancer.
>Clawed
Nothing but walking around aimlessly and looking at some dinos. The map is way too big and the game neither gives good indicators of where to go nor rewards you for exploring.
I may check out some CRPG demos later this week if they are still up (most of them are).

>>712858672That's fine, sometimes you just want a straightforward experience.
>>712858614>nor rewards you for exploring. It does actually, if you're good at it. What you meant to say is it doesn't reward you for being a failed explorer. And why should it?
He's not wrong that the game doesn't give you mission objectives, except a broad one. You have to nose around and actually figure things out yourself. He's wrong to consider not having your hand held a bad thing, though.

I should get to these demos but maybe I'll just play Stardew Valley.
>>712857169I spent more time with Hark, it's, IMO, more inspired by Bloodborne atmosphere-wise, while Verho -- by dark souls, down to Patches. >>712861634>Stardew ValleyGAAAYY
>>712858987I'm a card game degenerate here are the ones I liked:
>my card is better than your cardcard crafting find stickers to put on cards which alter effects and cost. Demo the effects are pretty simple tho different from a lot of these that are just 1:1 StS copies
>One Turn KillA typical in that get random abilities after battles but do all deck building before a run. Structure is you have to combo off and win each fight in one turn but enemies will have after you play X cards do Y effect / all cards cost is drawing a certain number of cards and have to win before deck runs out.
>Dice legendsspellrogue / dicey dungeons where cards have slots to place dice in except unlike those games you draw the cards with slots in them each turn. Cool art / music
>Moonsigil atlasrather than typical energy costs, cards have shapes that need to slot in a pattern to play
>frostboundKind of wave defence; place units on a grid that enemies march toward your base each turn
In the played but worse than above
>replicatmemory matching game + rogulite + kind of balatro scoring
>doomspirehearthstone with some kinda cool effects but very snowbally / very obvious hard combos (if get a good dragon card run becomes clicking the dragon card in every choice)

I enjoyed KuloNiku, it's very comfy, the different characters are a lot of fun and the gameplay is smooth. Instead of managing multiple customers and timers like most cooking games, you just manage one, but their orders are more complex and require some ingredient minmaxing (like a sauce gives the dish a spicy flavor but it reduces saltiness, so you need to add something salty but maybe that ingredient also increases sweetness, etc.)

MIMESIS was so fucking disappointing.
For one thing it only supported playing with friends, not making servers for others to join, but I was still able to play solo to see the mechanics.
It's literally just "Lethal Company but worse" in all aspects except for when a mimic occasionally shows up. The whole schtick of the game are the mimics replicating player voices, but going in, I thought it would be an AI sort of thing where it synthesized new speech and tried to respond appropriately to things humans said in order to actually fool them.
Instead, it literally just parrots speech that gets said over voice chat, verbatim. There's no intelligence behind it, which means that what they say is almost never going to make contextual sense, which makes it incredibly easy to identify mimics.

>>712866905I think they expect you to spam the special attack songs until you're out of mana and then only use the regular attack to kill time until your mana is back but even when I was doing that it still felt pretty slow due to how much they'd just miss both regular and special attacks and the few times the flying enemies glitched out and flew away and I had to wait like three minutes for them to come back definitely didn't help.

Honestly, it wasn't even that bad. But I think I am passing on this demo. I got enough survival horror, I don't need to bother with this one. It's focusing on multiplayer anyway, so I wish them luck with that one.
Maybe it'll be popular, but I don't need to bother with a solo campaign that is tacked onto a CO-OP game.

Oh well. I actually got a cool (though woke) game I'm looking forward to releasing this week, so I'll have to make do with that.
I tried and Roger, Ooo, Dimhaven, Eriksholm, Every Day We Fight and Mystery of the Malign. What else am I missing that's good? No roguelite shit, city or deck builders, or games with trash gacha-tier girl designs (so basically no Chinese or Korean games).

Tagged as an RPG, but not really an RPG. More like a CYOA where you have different dialogue options representing different approaches to a situation (e.g. Bureaucratic, Bargaining, etc.), and you have to talk to people and solve a mystery. Think Disco Elysium but in 3D for who knows what reason. The banner image on Steam makes it looks like it's going to be some crappy mascot horror game. Terribly unoptimized. Added Absolum and Hark the Ghoul off of this thread. Slightly less excited for Ratatan now because people don't seem to be loving it.
I already had Gecko Gods wishlisted, but the demo might make me unwishlist it.
It's not "bad" but it's not what I was expecting. I'm pretty sure I wishlisted it just off the teaser with the climbing mechanics, but that's basically all it has. All the puzzles are easy and there's no mechanical depth.
I'm not a fan of "comfy puzzle games."
>>712877456It's A Short Hike lizard edition
To think that I postponed the Dice Gambit demo until now. But I finally played it and I'll have to shill it.
It's now my favourite demo of the entire Next Fest. I'm surprised. But the tactical SRPG combat combined with dice is honestly a really fun way to introduce an RNG element that isn't just your ordinary hit/miss&crit percentages. It's simultaneously more predictable and manageable while undeniably still RNG which introduces an unpredictable element that can force you to react or adapt.
But I also like the choices the game has you make outside of combat. The relationships with the different houses and individuals of the city and the perks and potential benefits that you can unlock and acquire by gaining their favour, that in turn gives you more options in how you build your growing family. Is cool. I like how the paths you take during expeditions will leave you choosing between opportunities to combat for loot, exp, and favour with the different characters. Or other events that can strengthen your different family members or other odd encounters. All while you've got limited energy limiting how many expedition steps and events you can realistically go for in a single expedition, forcing you to make choices.
Even such a simple thing as the region itself of your chosen expedition, affecting the likely events, encounters, and characters you're likely to find. Also ends up giving you choices that are relevant.
And it's fun to build your characters. To choose the different classes and to level them up. Choosing perks and abilities alongside various status options that both raise and lower stats. And then you can fish for suitors and breed your characters and try to optimize these stats.
It's a lot cooler than I expected.

>Funi Raccoon Game

Bloodthief is really good. The only criticisms I put in the review form are that I wish the homing attack pinged faster, and it could use more aesthetic styling and exploration.
>>712856060>Hell is usTried this one. The combat felt similar to bloodborne. You can heal by counter-attacking after taking damage.
It has the barebone exploration elements they have been marketing, but the demo was somewhat linear and it ended as soon as the map opens up.
The story seems interesting enough.
Few potential red flags though. The demo had some Skyrim-dungeons tier puzzles. The demo had few enemy types and no boss fights to showcase. I hope it won't be a problem in the final product.
>>712854109 (OP)Only demo I played was jump ship, just as I got into the lobby with friends the host crashed but they said they weren't impressed anyway and didn't restart, I gave it a bit of a solo run anyway but didn't finish that basic mission because I couldn't be assed to figure out how to make more ship ammo, I could only seem to make more guns themselves.
It might turn out alright, i'll see what people are saying once it's out
>>712878827>shutterbugis that from starting with a random class unlocked? What's that class like? don't think i saw who would unlock that otherwise.
Also what did your characters end up like?
i had my character on the knife thrower class so i was able to prepare 4-6 knifes for the next turn. and my other character got a signature skill through a random event from a class i haven't even unlocked that puts a spotlight on a tile giving anyone on that tile constantly fragile to take every damage.
Needless to say i melted every big enemy like the portal wardens.
And then i got fucked up in the reactor because there was more than 1 big target and it was simply "kill big guy and fight is over".
Shit's fun. definitely a day 1 buy.

Just by its aesthetics, it seems like the kind of game I'd look at for five seconds and discard immediately in seek of others. Unfortunately in these days, and especially in the current context of Next Fest where 2,000 demos are the minimum and increasing, visual appeal is everything, far more important than playability and music, because without a proper introduction, a game repels and scares
>>712894124>Does it look like something you absolutely can't resist clicking on?He just needs to add big titty waifus.
>>712885957>is that from starting with a random class unlocked? What's that class like? don't think i saw who would unlock that otherwise. And yeah, Shutterbug was my random class I got from the Spoiled for Choice game modifier I chose at the start.
Otherwise it turns out you unlock it from Rank4 with Victorin. And the class is an "Exposed" focused class and comes with picture related being its skills and abilities (the tooltip for the Exposed Status effect in the bottom right corner). And Profiling is real powerful. Doesn't do much against bosses but it's been the MVP of my expeditions.
And yeah the multi-throw knife ability is really nice. Got that on my non-Shutterbug daughter. She doesn't have much HP at all though so I'm a bit worried for her. Her crit is nice though.
Sadly I accidentally chose Dig Up Dirt on my main character since I didn't know clicking on it would instantly teach me it and then lock me out of the skill choice. But I really like the signature ability he started with. But maybe the MC's signature is the same for everyone.
>>712874067>>no overly ambitious collectathonsConsidering how the others had multiple I'm kind of surprised this one didn't seem to have it.

>>712901790Nah there's an undercurrent with these indieshitters. The replies fo it are already trying to imply that Valve needs to gatekeep again.
This fest had by far the most questionable decisions by devs. You can get in one single demo now.
Like, if you're going to enter one of these, shit you should be avoiding
>Your game runs like shit
>Advertising your demo is timed; it just pisses people off
>No resolution options or insanely limited; not everyone is using big screens
>Controls that literally don't work
>Doing no testing at all; it took me < 5 mins into a run in one game to clip through the map and softlock the game so hard I had to force close it. I pressed 1 button.
>No trailer video
>A trailer video that's literally just the devs speaking, because you have that little faith in the gameplay (a trailer made largely of panning shots of the world and cutscenes is fine though, even though i don't like them, most people do)
>Not looking at other games in the same genre and making sure you at least have the basics; I was so fucking confused when I played an FPS and they didn't even show ammo on the hud. Its the most basic shit.
>Unskippable cutscenes; most people will just close the game before its over
>No tutorial if your game plays weirdly, but also
>Don't make the tutorial super slow and plodding
>If your content is placeholder... why is it in the fest? Ie king static. 2/4 weapons are 'placeholder'. Put it off 'till next fest then.
I have to assume this was the least succesful next fest in history for getting downloads and wish lists. It was genuinely shocking how many of them had gigantic fundamental flaws literally anyone on this site could point out instantly. The majority of games I saw had 0 community posts or just ones complaining about issues like the above.

"Every man feels the need to write a book" is now:
Every man/tranny now feels the need to make a shitty "indie" game.
Some of you just weren't meant to be game producers. Stop releasing shit on Steam. Stop wasting your time. Learn a real skill and apply yourself.
Valve are the only ones making money.
>>712902872>Learn a real skill and apply yourself.fuck you i can do both
>>712854109 (OP)>this not being top 50 playedNo accounting for taste, their loss.
>>712903660What's the appeal.
It was just a very boring roguelite with overly long cooldowns on your overly limited moveset in areas with way too many enemies for how boring the combat is.
The only thing of note was the artstyle and the people who buy games because they look good buy AAA games
>>712903660It's just shittier Nuclear Throne/Isaac
>>712854109 (OP)>Top 50 demos are here, naturally, we didn't play any of them because we are counterculture to the core.Yep, as per usual, the most popular demos on /v/ are completely different. There are demos in the top 10 I haven't even heard about. I mean, most likely I did see them when scrolling through demos and discarded without giving them a second thought.
>>712904235Dead as dicso, ball pit, ratatan, baby steps (although that seemed to be one guy spamming webms), ninja gaiden and mina the hollower were all brought up here a lot.
>>712896428>Big HopsThis platformer wasn't interesting at all
The movement is incredibly basic and overly simplified, the backflip has a forced animation lock instead of being snappy and responsive, and the level design is insultingly simple and barely changes after you leave the tutorial area making it very forgettable.
The only two good parts I can say about it are the grapple physics are fun when you build up speed even though the way you fly off them can be very jank at times as you don't get slingshot in a natural physics arc like you'd expect from any grapple mechanic
2nd thing is the seed projectile mechanic (like the vines/mushrooms) is by far the coolest and most interesting thing in this game since it has potential for interesting player expression and fun level design mechanics but this wasn't used well at all in the demo's level design and the game's overly simplistic movement is another downside to making this fun
The game isn't trying to be a movement focused platformer at all, it's a story focused 'cute' platformer focused on the seed projectile gimmick so I have no interest in playing it. It's a platformer for people that don't care about the platformer genre and just want to play a simple cutesy game
>>712904338True. Still, if we had a list, it wouldn't be very similar to the official one.

>>712905481How would you know what to scrape? How would you handle misspellings? How would you make the distinction between people simply mentioning a game once, having multiple replies that each mention or quote the name, or the same list getting reposted multiple times?
>>712905481Scrapping names isn't a hard part (although with generic ones like Baby Steps it can be challenging), it's determining if the post around it is positive, negative, or just mentions the game in passing ("Hark the Ghoul played similarly to Verho, which I liked" -- Verho shouldn't go on the list, Hark should). I think it's a genuine usecase for a local LLM. I really should look into this this weekend, I have about 10 of threads archived locally already.

>>712908870There was one dev who shilled for like the first 3-4 days I saw and no one seemed to mind so they should know its fine
That said I don't think he was shilling in the right place though, since his game looked like a game for streamers to react to, the exact opposite of most of /v/'s taste
>>712907346False dichotomy.
>>712854109 (OP)>because we're countercultureNo, I didn't play any of them because they are uninteresting trash

You could compare it to a psychological addiction like gambling, but psychological additions are only bad (and really, are only diagnosable as addictions) insofar as they begin to cause other areas of a person's life to suffer.
No one here is spending their life's savings on indie games, or losing their job because they can't stop playing indie games.
The addict comparison is retarded.
>>712909003Deadeye Deepfake Simulacrum was a /v/ game I really liked, from a Next Fest back in 2021.

Problem with a lot of /v/ shilling is they make games for like no audience. I remember about the same time as that there was a game where you played with like procedually generated meme cards or some shit. Like who is this for?

As of a few fests ago, a game can only be featured ONCE in a Next Fest.
It's something you do when your game is releasing imminently, not as soon as you possibly can. The hype will die if your game comes out 2 years after your Next Fest demo, and the demo will be shittier as well.
>>712909573nope I just checked between bitcraft and rogue and it's not there.

>>712909905Unfortunately, I don't filter the LGBT tag because any game which contains any form of yuri/lesbian relationship gets the tag brute-forced onto it by deranged fans/the developer.
I actually don't filter out any tags because I wanna see games in general and self-curate.
Here's an excellent example of how fucked that tag is and how bad filtering it is.
This is what pops up for me when I search the tag on Steam.
There's a variety of decent/good/not LGBT at all games on here that just have the tag stapled onto it.

the Artis Impact demo is really good. The main girl is a cute dork and it really shines through in her animations despite the minimalist art style. Also it runs in chrome for some reason?
>>712910474Kingdom Come 2 is gay, so the filter was doing it's job. Sports is gay. So is the fucking last of us. And Spider-Man 2.
I look at your list and see proof that the filter is keeping away stuff I don't want. Guilty Gear? Hades? Borderlands? All trash. As for Phoenix Wright, I played that on the Nintendo DS so it's nonsensical inclusion is irrelevant.

I played that game from start to finish with a friend, and I've never seen anything like that.

>>712913705>where the female lead characters are a clear and explicit allegory for Josef Fares' little daughtersHow would you possibly even know or imagine this if you didn't have him telling you that? Astragali is a great idea but is too half baked
Dungeons and Degenerate gamblers wasn't very good

>>712909327I see it like this. Games are addicting, and resorting to more niche games with exaggerated gameplay and/or presentation tells me normal games are just not hitting the right spot for your saturated brain.
I can't help but check the Steam discussions for every game I like and they're consistently depressing. It's either people asking the dev to make gameplay changes for the worse ('rougelike elements pls'), or localisation begging. Why is there a variant of 'ur game is amazing but i tell all my many frends and they say they wud play but there is no ukranain translation so pls make translatuin and u wil sell big many copies' on literally every board I look at?
>>712908870as long as devanons are upfront that they're the devs and they're here to shill their game, no one cares. it's only when they pretend to be unrelated to the game that it becomes a problem
but for some devs, they might not want to have the connection to 4channel. which is fair, but then you should hope one of us naturally finds your game and organically shills it here, and focus your attention elsewhere
>>712916385True I wishlisted only 2 games from this list of my 8.
>>712914656Admittedly, it doesn't even really have keyboard hotkeys, so I see where you're coming from.

still working my way through demos since I've been busy but going to quickly go over the ones I did and didn't like so far:
liked:
รoo: extremely short but fun, not sure how the mechanics will work out over a full game but what I saw so far in the demo had a decent amount of promise, some of the timing-oriented stuff towards the end felt a little awkward but I can see how it'd be fun to overcome like rusted moss's grapple system or something
MotionRec: another short but fun one (although double the length of รoo's demo), had a couple decent "aha" moments; I have the same issue of not really being sure how the mechanics will work out over a full game since it feels like things were already being pushed a bit in the demo but I can see it being really fun with the right execution
UVSU: I liked the blend of action and puzzle oriented stuff with the 'fighting yourself' mechanics (although it started learning much more puzzle later in the demo), has good potential and the demo is pretty fun (and feels more expansive than the other two platformers above)
Occlude: I'm a sucker for well-executed solitaire variations and it definitely delivers, the added mechanic of having to figure out the extra conditions for each deck makes it a lot of fun to sort the rules out your first time around and the rules continue being fun to play around in subsequent hands, I can see myself coming back to the demo just to play it and I'll probably get the full thing on launch depending on price
Texnoplazm: Good action combat, makes you feel strong and powerful while still providing some level of challenge, I like it hinging a lot more on melee than ranged combat like most games in this vein, navigation felt awkward at points but I'd always figure out where to go fast so I can't complain
Sinker Sound:
absolutely ruined me my first 10 or so attempts since it's overwhelming, quickly became very satisfying and fun once I adapted, the music and cute psp-ish graphical style also does a lot for me
>>712914295 Bro you're acting like adding any kind of romance automatically corrupts the game's message. The game already deals with messy emotions and complicated relationshipsโif anything, queerness fits right into that chaos. You don't need to read it as author-daughter allegory unless you're clinging to pre-release interviews like scripture. Art evolves past the creatorโs intentions, deal with it.

>>712919759meh:
Easy Delivery co.: this is more of a preference one. Very well executed and the driving controls are entertaining, but it just felt too aimless to me, I've never been one for these "cozy" sort of games with basically no stakes besides winning less hard (same reason I fell off of dredge a while back) so it was just sort of there. Maybe I just needed to let it sit with me longer but I felt like I'd experienced most of it after an hour or so and I just wasn't having much fun; I can see how some people would get something out of it though
Star Birds: basically the same situation as the above, feels good for what it is but there's basically nothing in the way of actual challenge and that got me pretty bored with it pretty quickly
disliked:
LOOTPLOT: way too much opportunity to do basically anything, it felt like there's just a bunch of random bullshit going on where you steamroll in no time while barely understanding your own strategy; especially with these 'build' oriented roguelites like balatro (or most deckbuilders to some extent) less is more and having a handful of strong synergies you're working around is much more fun than a billion little ticks, at least in my opinion, and it totally fails in this department
Inventorix: sort of the opposite, all synergies are extremely simple: "scores more depending on amount of itself", "scores more if adjacent to x category", etc. is the vast majority of what I saw and it just felt too shallow to be any fun
>>712914468>>712920303That's precisely why the LGBTQ+ tag sometimes doesn't reflect anything
and filter everything in it is a negligent behaviour.. Those tags are added by people, some deranged spam it in an attempt to troll just because they didn't like the female protagonists (although I partially agree, they're the worst part of the game, like its dialogue and voice acting), but no for that the game has lesbianism in it. It has no romance at all like It Takes Two did
>queerness fits right into that chaosOnly troons or psychotic gays likes to project themselves and be the center of attention in every game/product they play or interact with
I repeat myself, no matter how much they want to ship the lead characters, in the end, for their creator they are the live representation of his daughters..
Unless Josef Fares is a woke sickhead and creepy bastard who fantasizes about the queerness of his infant daughters, the fact that fans and players believe that subtext is enough to send them to fuck out

>>712911996Three fests ago or so there were several horror takes on stardew
>>712927919I've thought about doing threads for individual niche new games that just look interesting, but I'm afraid they would just get buried by the latest DEI/soft porn flavor of the month threads.
>>712920303>The game already deals with messy emotions and complicated relationshipsโif anything, queerness fits right into that chaosSounds like projection
>>712929796you'd get told to buy an ad and then the thread would die
>>712869068>>712925286Everyone who liked Mio should give Ayna Shattered Truth a go.
It has surprisingly great feeling gameplay.
>>712854109 (OP)no one played them because there's apparently no barrier to entry. almost all of it is like a UE5 tutorial level
>>712930320cope from a dope
>>712930298>give Ayna Shattered Truth a go.from the same people?
>>712930180Yeah, despite /v/'s self-image as some hipster contrarian board, the only stuff that gets discussed outside of Steam Next Fest/Sale threads is mainstream stuff. You can start as many stealth marketing threads for Expedition 33 or Stellar Aids as you want, but the moment you talk about anything new that doesn't have a marketing budget behind it you get hit with "buy an ad kys". If you actually want to talk about anything niche you have to go to plebbit.
>>712930180>>712931802I don't use the rest of this board, every thread makes me want to strangle someone
>>712931802considering 4chan's general userbase it's super surprising just how hard /v/ is focused on the mainstream
>>712929457Damn, demo shit pile digging should be a general on /vg/ or something. There's exactly 0% chance I would've found that otherwise. It might be not great (we'll see about that -- downloading the demo), but it is at least not another quirky earthbound RPGmaker gamer, or a deckbuilding roguelike.
Vampire's Best Friend demo made me want to rip my dick off in rage, but I beat it.
>>712931049No, it's another demo in this Fest. Starts out with rudimentary platforming but it gets better.
They just nailed the feeling of it, I hope they will keep ramping up the level of challenge.
>>712932319You're better than me. Shit was hard. Really good though, the amount of stamina is just right.

๐
>>712932602>the amount of stamina is just rightAgreed. I wasn't sure at first whether I liked that it was a timer rather than having wing flaps exhaust it, but I got used to it.
Also, I was pretty thankful that if you light the entire set of candles in a room, they aren't reset upon death.
>>712932057>4chan's general userbaseDrama-addicted troons and edgy teenagers?
>>712932313The problem with the generals on /vg/ is that without the cross-traffic from other anons they degenerate into schizoid circlejerks. Splitting up /v/ into a million different boards and removing generals was a mistake because it puts all the autists into echo chambers where they just stew in their own juices and become progressively more deranged. Since the autists who actually talk about games are all gone, normalfags and jeets reign free with their /pol/, rule34, and nontroversy threads.
>>712932964I know, I know, it's just some wishful thinking on my part. I should be thankful that at least a couple of times a year I've got to talk about games with people who actually play them. Oh well.
people have conditioned themselves with piracy and aren't willing to take chances on games anymore. Plenty of good stuff out there.
People like that Resident Evil Turn Based Roguelike, but this real time turn based resident evil roguelike only got 20 reviews:

>>712916991You are a retard that refuses to acknowledge that AAA games have gotten objectively shittier over time and calling a drug addict anyone who disagrees.

>Check out games discussion because I want to see if other people had the issues I do>Literally half the topics on the board are on guy >All the replies to his topics are just himselfA real gamer(tm)
>>712928187Deadeye was shit when I played the demo since hacking had an RNG chance of instantly cucking you, making it not worth doing. Combat was just bad. So I simply ran past all content to the end with some summon to take aggro and ignoring the games content like this was by far the best way to playu
>>712933918very refreshing take on a VS-like, I hope not too many demos go down in the coming days since there are a ton like this one I feel like I haven't gotten enough time with yet
>>712928848devs just dont stop and think theyre not the main character of the event. sometimes their fans too. i saw a topic on one game where a guy had an issue with it and the reply from a fan was "tell me you havent played more than 30 mins without telling me"
>1000 demosdoes he really think that eveyrone is a nolife who can spend 30 mins per each thing that looks fun? do the devs?
>>712934069i'm worried about how progression is going to work long term because it seems like i blew through all the upgrades in about 10 hours but i really want to play more
>>712929061So, like I said.
What is the appeal?
What does it actually offer beyond a neat artstyle and bad combat?
I don't get the NT comparisons, it plays nothing like it beyond them both being top down shooters.
Keylocker was great but no one ever played that.
>>712933943deadeye is weird since hacking is by far the most effective way to progress but even now you have a chance to randomly get fucked by doing it unless you have a class specifically dedicated to hacking unlocked (and the stats to support it) which further cucks you out of everything else. For an immersive sim it feels like it railroads you into a single playstyle depending on your initial choices way too hard
>>712934408I'll dl it and hope it doesn't get taken down, I really don't get the whole timed demos thing
>>712934419i told the dev this like 2-3 years ago and his response was to say he'll add an easy mode
im not sure if he even read the post he was replying to, since i called the game easy, which the demo was if you simply ignored everything
i think the game did okay though so good for him i nthe end
>>712932458No release date is rough :( but looks good actually, will check out
>>712934408Somebody might've if you had mentioned it a couple of times in previous threads.
>>712934640Half the fun of these threads and the fests is the gacha of when your game release, if it even does
>>712934408>limited time demoat least it's already out I guess
>>712934681you don't deserve to know about it. forget you saw it.
Hydra was a pretty good Fallout-style game. Doesn't look like much, I'll admit, but plays better than it looks.

that was quick, guess you can't do much for a demo in such a narrative-based game though
Lumina Veil dev says it will be free on release and the only problem was one guy in these threads wouldn't stop whining about how it used a playstation control scheme instead of an xbox.
