if you don't like fucking around and just want to plow through the game, and excruciatingly boring title that plays itself and has you walking down corridors for the last 15 hours
If you really get into the groove with it, one of the most autistic games ever made and probably one of the most complex FF games that is unfortunately a little stitched together due to Matsuno getting the Japanese cold during production

i was a big FF7 player and the game shaped my sense of adventure for a while. this was the only other FF i played. it was okay at best. the art was the most stellar part of it. gameplay and story were kinda lacking (not memorable in either respect). but the art i still remember 20 years later. i think i have the strategy guide for it too. let us know your thoughts

One small thing I really appreciated about this game was that the boy characters were voiced by actual boys and not middle aged women pretending to be boys.

12 is fun because it has one of the best things about 8: you can break the shit out of it. Ridiculously powerful class combos, going to areas you aren't supposed to yet to get powerful weapons early, using the trial mode to get End game stuff way earlier, it's so much fun. And the hunts, the world is gorgeous, and it has the absolute best moogles. Bravo, OP. Hope you have a lot of fun with it.

FF12 got a very bad reception not because it plays itself, but because it didn't play itself early enough. The first several hours of the game was a fucking slog back in the day and most people hated it and even later on when you get more gambits because it was still too slow. IZJS alleviated this and TZA made it even easier, but the probable reason they dropped the system was because of the initial reception prompting them to make the FF13/Versus games that were even worse.

I loved it. There are valid criticisms like Vaan being the "main" character. Some people don't like the combat, or gambits.

I loved the combat and gambit system. I thought it was fun as fuck to program my party in the perfect way. You're going to have to switch up the gambits for different scenarios too, it's not a set-once-and-forget thing. Especially for some of the rare hunts out there.

Let's be honest, you could have asked the same question about literally any FF game and the thread would still be inundated with negative opinions. /v/ is not a good place for this, you'll just have to try it out for yourself

pretty good game, better than ff9 and ff6. the combat is fun but if you over automate it with gambits it loses some of the fun imo. other games could also be beaten if you had some sort of flow chart but ff12 actually gives you the tools to do so

depressing old game from the ps2 era

literally just finished a full hunt playthrough about an hour ago.

so many thoughts and feelings. story is absolutely fucking terrible and boring, which is the cardinal sin. vaan is the biggest joke in final fantasy history and who's entire purpose is to talk for 5 seconds at the (near) end to influence what action someone does. everything else he says is literally mocked. penelo might as well not exist either, she doesn't talk lol. rest of the cast seem so indifferent to each other and for a lot of the game outright dislike each other, who the fuck thought this was a good idea? fran/balthier (+ ashe) are the only redeeming parts of the crew.

gameplay initially seems fun but most everything just revolves around auto-attacks and buffs. i don't hate the gambit system, i guess i just have mixed feelings about everything. TZA completely destroys any balance the game has, but thankfully some of the end-game hunts are still kinda challenging (in that they require some thinking.) still, the combat is braindead simple.

game is big, but still feels empty all the same when most zones have nothing in them outside of 100000 chests that contain 43 gil. fun!

quickening system sucks ass too, not fun. decent soundtrack. i didn't hate the game or anything, but i was bored throughout a lot of it for sure. just run from A to B, repeat. didn't really like the leveling system too much, but meh.
