I'm a longstanding Deus Ex fan, but I'm not going to pretend it's an untouchable masterpiece.

"The reactivity is amazing - Manderley tells you off if you go in the women's toilets!"
>Manderley lets you hack his computer and read Top Secret missives in his presence, with no consequences for the player
>no law and order system. You can go into a bar and pay 20 cybercreds for a bottle of wine, or you can go behind the bar and steal a thousand cybercreds' worth off booze of the shelf in front of the bartender, again without consequences
>murder as many homeless people and children as you like, the resident moralfags Paul and Jacobson won't say a word against it, even though they must know
>walk right into the MJ-12 facility in Hong Kong, no one will recognise you because JC just blends into the background with his totally unremarkable shades-and-trenchcoat-and-facial-nodes. Somehow the men in black have never seen your picture in their security briefings

And no one there knows what the famous terrorist and traitor Denton looks like? Not even the MiBs, the automaton children of the mainframe? Keep in mind that this happens after the Hell's Kitchen meetup with Paul, when you've pinned your allegiance to the resistance. And I think Denton is even being reported in the newscasts at this time.

the enemies start recognizing you as denton a while later into the game, or in some preceding areas. theyre all the way in hong kong and they arent aware of you yet
the enemies will start pointing out youre denton and talking to you personally the more you progress into the game
>>712871250
this is ultimately minor
its more about areas like hong kong and the many different routes/options for some objectives, or how nice and long and filled with relevant stuff the story is
the game probably wouldnt be better off if there was some penalty for exploding children

>its more about areas like hong kong

Hong Kong is one of the game's cardinal disappointments. The tiny shoebox police station with one feeble guard sitting at the door of the vault where they keep the world-shattering evidence.

The setting up of two gang factions, obviously meant to be a player choice in some early draft, a crossroads like the San Fran gangwar in Fallout 2, but reduced to a linear obligation that makes the entire premise seems pointless.

The compressed city layout that anticipates the claustrophobic design schemes of Invisible War.

The continuing lack of law enforcement, more conspicuous here than in the John Carpenteresque New York of earlier. Hong Kong is supposed to be a vibrant and functioning society, but you can kill all the cops and there still won't be any reinforcements.

I didn't care for the catacombs personally, but Vandenburg, the missile silo, the undersea base, and the gas station rescue are top shelf.

I can forgive a lack of hub worlds after that because the plot starts picking up and there's no time to keep dicking around.

They both change the maps. GMDX is better overall and only makes fairly conservative modifications to the maps (should have a new version out soon). Revision is worth a try after you've played GMDX but I think most people consider the map changes worse than the original. Then set up Deus Ex Randomizer for some silly fun.
Oh, nevermind, I went to check and it looks like the new GMDX version literally just came out:

Neither, use Transcended. It's basically just a final balance patch/bug fix for the game that fixed a bunch of shit the devs never did. The gameplay otherwise remains the same.

GMDX is most interesting in terms of combat. The AI can actually utilize equipment like armor and camo, throw grenades, shoot through breakable objects, and lock down chokepoints as opposed to always banzai charging you like retards. I love all of that, it's just all the other changes I don't like.

Revision reworks a fuck ton of stuff but the big thing is that the maps are totally different. Gameplay wise, that's not always a good thing, as the original game had (usually) pretty tight level design, but Revision's levels do at least look more like real places than vanilla, which just aren't believable at all.

The cut White House is well known, I hadn't heard of the others.

It's interesting to think about how these other areas might have fit into the overall game structure. The Deus Ex we have is long, with its best and most reactive content placed at the beginning in New York. Your choices soon cease to matter: the Manderley debriefings and the moral admonitions from Paul are just sweeteners to lure new customers, and soon abandoned. If these other levels had been included, I'd expect them to be fairly shallow and linear, more Goldeneye than Deus Ex.

It's fine if they want to keep the themes, what I'm getting at is they showed almost nothing except themes and basic gameplay elements in the most test room tier looking maps possible. Deus Ex, even if the geometry could be wonky, had big maps filled with memorable characters and little secrets, which I seriously doubt Core Decay would ever come close to.

The real pleasure of Deus Ex is when you're running freely around using your personalised loadout of powers to dispatch bad guys. Stealth is okay but it's actually better to play as an action hero, which is kind of unique in Deus Ex because you're always in first person without "press X to do takedown cutscene" or "press O to press against wall for cover."

Overpopulation is an old issue tho? The current issue is that first world countries' native birth rates are below replacement levels, hence the endless immigration debates. In fact, around the globe it seems the better off you and your country are, the less you care to have kids. The new doomsday scenario is that the human race choosing not to continue itself. Maybe romance is dead, maybe vidya is just more fun than raising human larva, I think the jury's still out on the specifics.
But point is, if anything, the government would want to create a virus that turns everyone super-fertile.

I thought of games I've played, remembered Deltarune because it's fresh on my mind, and came to conclusion that in terms of the player's actions affecting the game's world and story, Deltarune is better.
