If Japan is supposed to be an absolute backwater as far as the world of magic goes in the Nasuverse, how come all the most busted magi in the setting come from here? Every non-Japanese magi we see save for Zelretch is a complete jobber when compared to nipponese magi.

The 3 mage families are all dead now though. Rin is alive but she's getting bonged.

Rin and the Aozakis are the only magi of note from Japan though, every other magus of note is a gaijin with a funny name. Rin just wins because she has protag plot armor.
