Online co-op that isn't straight up just multiplayer is harder to pull off because it's not like you buy a single game and then play it with multiple other players splitscreen anymore, you and your friends each have to buy the game individually which can be quite the investment depending on region. Not to mention the lag from distances, there's a lot of games that are borderline unplayable if you're playing them across continents.
