2=3 > Genesis >>>> dogshit > AIDS > The Last of Us 2 > 1

2 and 3 are great for entirely different reasons and I could recommend one or the other to certain people depending on their tastes. 3 on Ravager difficulty is one of my favorite Souls clones while Darksiders 2 is one of the best Diablo/Zelda/Warrior Within clones you can get your hands on.

It's hard for me to rate Genesis objectively because it's a great 2 player co-op game and you don't need to know anything about the series to enjoy it (it's also my first entry because it was co-op)

1 is objectively dogshit and I can name a ton of reasons, whether it's the pisspoor combat which is stupid easy, the really bad items (the horn), the bad level design (no room for the horse and the fact that the game world isn't as cleverly designed as Darksiders 3 by leading back into shortcuts or even has a decent fast travel system like 2). It's also the shortest game with the most filler (the shitty fucking sword pieces and the mask, kek) The only thing saving 1 from being one of the worst games I ever played was the puzzles, but 2 and 3 are full of them so you don't need to play 1 and you can just get by by watching it's cutscenes on YouTube.

The biggest and funniest cope I've seen from fans of 1 is that "the series is all bad!"... yeah no.

1 is the best game overall, and I always enjoy replaying it. 2 has my favorite main character, and I still enjoy the combat, but not quite as much as 1. 3 is very enjoyable as well and oddly feels like a return to form over 2. It kind of has a more similar level and progression feel to the first game with some Souls mechanics sprinkled on top of it.

I am christening you "darksiders 2 autist" since this is your second thread I've been able to recognize as being made by you without it being copypasted.

I have heard these games are like Zelda.
Do they have unique upgrades / mechanics? (not already featured in the Zelda series)

Darksiders 1 attempts to be Zelda, but it's dogshit at it. 2 and 3 change for the better but still retain the Zelda like puzzles.

For example, in OOT, you get an item, you use it in a bunch of places. Darksiders 1 gives you a horn item you NEVER FUCKING USE AGAIN

It's an embarrassingly bad game, but I am happy it exists even it's shit so 2, 3 and Genesis could come out.

So no unique upgrades?
What are the puzzles based on?
Is it mostly switches and block-pushing? Any large dungeon mechanisms?

>What are the puzzles based on?
>Is it mostly switches and block-pushing?

Yeah that sounds about right. There's one related to a bug that pissed me the fuck off but the logic made sense when I found the solution. I'd say overall the only good part about the first game are those puzzles as the combat is the pits. Only in Darksiders 2 do they do anything truly interesting with the puzzles, like introducing a whole item that is then removed once the game has thrown all the puzzle ideas they had with it.

>Any large dungeon mechanisms?

Yeah just when I thought the game had run out of steam, there was a whole dungeon for portals and platforming. It's about as good as the game gets.

If you mean 2, I don't want to say because I really do like 2 and hope you play it. It's Zelda/Warrior Within/Diablo all rolled into one and hammers out all the kinks of the original like actually having a good fast travel system.

Nobody can defend Darksiders 1 beyond "muh feels"

Here's an example

Fast travel in the first game
>Game has waypoints that are dotted over the world that you unlock
>Some of them are poorly placed on the world map, meaning they're not exactly convenient
>You have to run through a shitty little ethereal tunnel with load times to get to a spot on the map you might not even want, because again, badly designed maps and waypoint placement
>Due to the poor level design, the horse can't go most places, making it a useless addition

Fast travel in DS2
>You open your map and select a destination and you're there
>The world is actually well designed and the horse can go 99% of places

Anybody who likes 1 is the actual contrarian here

good game, could use better and more combat and more upgrades for variety, some 'puzzles' are just chores which feel like padding - so they could replace them with more fights
but still fun game overall, replayed it twice
