I think so, yes, there is a decent gameplay base here, just a lack of content. 6 weapons and 5 missions isn't particularly good. The question is, will anyone actually go back to play it? We'll have to wait and see

Live service GaaS needs some sort of pull to it. The armor and character designs look like shit, the gameplay is absolutely nothing special there content provided is tiny.
Are they just going to keep working on it regardless of being ignored on launch?

The problem is simply the lack of content and replayability. Apparently the fun perks that you can unlock are just too far down the line that you run out of content before reaching it. Saw this coming a mile away but was hoping it wouldn't be the case

Anon if you think a game is only allowed to be reviewed negatively when it's legitimately broken then I think you need to rewire how you approach reviews in general.
If a game is bad for any reason and it outweighs the good, it should be given a bad review.

Just uninstalled. Played it for 20 minutes on gamepass. Every second spent I kept wishing it was a story driven single player game instead. Love the concept of special ops sent to fix supernatural problems but it plays like an even more boring version of modern co op shooters.

Thus immediately proving you wrong. Mostly negative can also occur when a game has been ruined (and has nothing to do with performance)

On steam you can only say you like it or don't like it as a score, not what you think the score actually is. So sometimes situations like this are bound to happen.

It depends on a genre. For an oversaturated genre like Metroidvania being 7/10 should be seen as being functionally no different from being 1/10. Cause there's already too many 8/10 and above games of that genre out there for anyone to realistically play them all. PvE shooters are not in that level yet but let's be real here, giving this game 7/10 is way too generous. Critics are not harsh enough.

Control is good fun, I enjoyed it a lot and finally got around to playing it specifically in anticipation of Firebreak hoping it wouldn't run into the very issue that it's getting flamed for
I'd say either get a month of gamepass to play it now and then come back to it a year or two down the line when it's cheap to pick up and has lots more content. I think the core is probably solid it's just missing replayability for the moment

Do you really have to ask? Shareholders ask for an unreachable infinite growth potential and singleplayer has a definitive end - also, adding singleplayer content requires more resources than adding a few skins to a live service game.

I think I honestly kinda like this game?
Like, I'm playing completely solo, and after two hours I feel like I sort of *get what's going on.
The content is definitely slim but the way it works within the wider context of clearances & corruption makes perfect sense.
It's also strangely comfy because gunplay isn't the focus so much as learning level layouts and managing tools.

Unironically this is more enjoyable than stuff like Lethal Company in my opinion.

There is something there but it is unfinished bollocks and they spent far more time on the GaaS elements.
90% of your kit is stripped and you have to grind to unlock every basic aspect of your character. Weapon variety stinks and half the weapons are dozens of games worth of grinding down before you can even hope to get it. Battlepasses and cosmetics in a game with very little repeatable content.

It doesn't take "10s of hours." You just said you played every mission past clearance 3, right? So you should have almost everything for at least one of the classes. The rest of the unlocks are perks and damage upgrades. Now that shit is grindy but I presume the launch content will be expanded massively if the game does somewhat fine.

its not though

its like a tech demo idea for a game, there is no enemy variety outside of reused assets from control, no gameplay variety, locations are so tiny it takes like 30 seconds to run from one corner to another and there is 5 of them ...
it plays like a free dlc to control, instead you are supposed to pay almost full price for it?

I switched between the melee and the water guy, with my kits at around 4-5 on both of them. Tried to fit the random team so we had one of each class.
Oh and don't bother posting a gameplay of the "super duper endgame" I just found one and it's just some dude doing the exact same mission but with modifiers and spending more time on the mission because he's alone and searching the map alone for loot drops
The game is barebones as fuck anon. Sorry I don't view "bro just keep playing until you unlock the gear so you can play the same mission but with a traffic light that appears in front of you..." as worthwhile in the slightest

lmao this is a ridiculous way to put it. What the devs actually did was make one mission. Realised they had almost nothing for release. and so decided you must play a mission 3 times, having to leave at the first and second checkpoint before you can do the final part of the mission.
Playing clearance 3 and having the mission be literally the same, following the same steps from 1 and 2 with ZERO map variation was just insulting.

You're supposed to walk on the piles of sticky notes and then go back to the shower so they wash off of you. Pretty sure you can also have someone blast you with water to expedite the process. That's only on clearance 1 btw, then you don't have to deal with it anymore and the note piles just become hazards.

No they wouldn't? Each part of the map is blocked by a big fucking checkpoint door you can't open until you clear the mission for the area.
That doesn't change ever. The full mission being unlocked to begin with would change nothing.
There is no reality in which players need to experience the first zone and then first and second zone as stupid 5 minute chunks.

vermintide 2 is how you do it, big maps with optional shit for veternas, but difficulties add more and more and more enemies and you can bump up the difficulty even more by grabbing optional shit for best rewards
it makes it so only real vets know how to unlock the hardests paths, and also make the game fucking insane hard when you do it

but vermintide has amazing gameplay with crazy skill celling that can last you for months of play even on the same maps, and there is still a shitload of them today, and on launch there was quite a bit

I feel bad for Remedy. They have to keep taking publishing/Exclusivity deals from companies to stay afloat and make new games, and their games are full of genuinely interesting concepts, but they can never end up making enough money to break those chains. Then they try to make a GAAS with Fire Break to get some cashflow, but I'm assuming they don't really have the amount of devs required to keep that up. I think they have like 3-4 hundred.

Maybe the Max Payne remakes will get them some money and their next project can be something bigger. Unless this is going to put them too deep into the hole. I do want to see Remedy succeed though.

I would understand your point if the tasks were complex in any way or required any thought.
People are not going to get stuck on Hot Fix 1 and need to redo it and learn so they can do Hot Fix 1+2, then go to Hot Fix 1+2+3
We know this because Darktide exists and launched with full missions with multiple mission zones and everything was absolutely fine.
I don't even think you believe the bullshit you're spewing, and it doesn't change that the full content was "fully unlocked with max gear and farming drops where the game starts for real bro!" is just the exact same godamn map every time.

No, and even if they died more, so what?
You have games with much more complex levels and objectives and they dont need to structure the level into 3 pieces that only reveal the entire level by the third time you play.
Doing the first clearance of hot fix was just interacting with 3 things, killing a boss and go to extraction (tiny room, barely counts), you could without a doubt continue the experience from there.
Just think of any Destiny raid or Warframe match.
This game is fine but its way too thin, over time it could be expanded but damn, its mental to release it with just this, especially since its all reused assets.
Alan Wake American Nightmare made you replay the same 3 areas multiple times while costing 15%, with an added survival mode in a handfull of maps, it felt cheap in that strategy but it did manage to justify itself a lot better

3 "Jobs"/campaigns, 3 classes and only 6 weapons.
I've also seen a few people complain enemies are kinda dumb and there isn't a lot of variety of them

So it seems like a competently made game which should have been in the oven for another 6 months while they build a few more maps.

The whole point of Firebreak was that it was supposed to be an attempt at a modern L4D which isn't GAAS. Thats why there isn't any MTX.

I imagine it was a way to try and leverage a lot of the very expensive Control assets they had lying around in a way that let the studio flex new muscles and try something new.
Unfortunately they should have kept it in the oven a bit longer. Seems 90% of the complaints are lack of content. Its worse than Darktide release.

The game is fun but they fucked up pricing it at 40 bucks. That makes it direct competition to higher budget titles like Helldivers 2 or Darktide with more content. And it just doesnt hold up to that standard in its launch state even with the noble goal of making all future gameplay content free and permanently available.
I like what it tries with its focus on environmental effects like fire, water, lights needing to repaired and all that stuff and the gunplay and enemy roster seems serviceable.
Also the introductory experience sucks putting you into the shortest simplest piss easy missions before things actually get challenging and interesting on higher mission length and higher difficulty levels.

It's been that way ever since. It's kind of amusing because TOR went on to be extremely successful despite the incels desperately trying to tank it.

It's probably no surprise that it was happening right as Bannon started his gaymurrgate grooming of the WoW-playing incels. I actually think WoW/Blizz itself created this problem because it created a bunch of zealots that threw away video games for an addiction and Bannon knew that manufactured outrage would be an even more enticing form of addiction for them. They didn't even have to pay $15 a month for it!

Embarrassing. You're losing to a fucking comedian president using literal consumer-grade DJI drones. Go home, Ivan.
