Just finished Witcher 3
Its very overrated
Maybe standards were different 10 years ago

The Baron quest is the one good bit everyone points to distract you from the rest of the shit

Why is is 500 hours long when 90% of the game is the same shit over and over

6.5/10

TW3 came out before Ubisoft made 100 open world "point of interest" games, so there's that.
And I think there's at least 20 interesting stories in the game, if not more. Certainly the main plots and some side quests of the DLC are very good.

2015 was a good year for games.
We got gems like undertale, dying light, kerbal space program, arkham knight, tomb raider, heroes of the storm and soma.
By today's standard's all of those games are also overrated but it was a decade ago.

It's a solid 8/10, the expansions are 9.5, with Blood and Wine being shameless fanservice and that's how I like it.
But I have also read the books, and the game gains a lot if you did, kind of like The Godfather does as a movie.

Exactly, Baron was the only character that i gave a shit about.
If you cant give a shit about any of the characters, Bitcher 3 just sucks
The gameplay is complete garbage
I could actually suffer through hard difficulty for Nier Replicant, with its god awful gameplay because atleast the music, characters and plot was something i liked it doesnt excuse the horrible gameplay
Witcher 3 did none of that from the get go.
Im sure you could like it if you played the previous games and cared about those main bitches or even Geralt, who is probably one of the most boring protagonists ever
The most emotion i ever heard from that guys mouth was when he called those guys degenerates, thats it, a single line.

It's that, it was new and exciting at release. Now you've probably played 5-10 similar games if not more than that. Witcher 3 more or less became the template for AAA games going forward because it was such a critical and commercial success and treated as the greatest game of all time by players.

Play the DLC If you haven't though, the DLC are great.

Overpromised, underdelivered. The open world meme is a mistake where devs try to bite more than they can chew and it ends up being bland, boring, empty. Sailing in Skellige made me wish Poland got nuked. Then there's the gameplay, which was never CDPR's forte and as expected, it's shit. On top of that you add the story where Geralt is basically a fag and it all boils down to finding your super Mary Sue magical daughter. Then there's the graphics downgrade, which was to be expected but still not a great thing.

Except it was. TES and Fallout already killed open world slop as a genre. Clearly you weren't old enough to be there for the "open world boom" TW3 came out late in the idea cycle by then it quite literally was beaten to death and everyone with a brain had realized open world doesn't mean good and is usually synonymous with the opposite. A huge empty map with fuck all to do.

It's a very good game and has aged like wine.
Sure the combat feels a bit sloppy with a super simplistic skill system (I hope you're playing in hard mode to at least have to engage with the potions and game buffs) and the action combat isn't the game's forte.
Baron questline wasn't my favourite one. There are others as good if not better later on. In general, could enjoy most of the secondary quests. The biggest mistake would be trying to rush it. Just take your time, read the books you find around, enjoy the environment and all the characters.
The gear drops are adjusted to your current level most of the time, so it allows you to be very flexible about when you do the sites scattered around the map.

The main game of TW3 is 7/10. It's best played by powering through the main quest while ignoring nearly everything else other than the best sidequests, and then relishing the DLCs that are both much better than the main game.

The Witcher 3 had a heavier narrative focus and the addition of the Witcher senses(taken from Batman) have shown up in a lot of games since then. I just played through Ys9 and it has Witcher senses and the BotW glider, it was honestly depressing because you can see Falcom trend chasing with it.

But yeah, Witcher 3 is being THE video game until Elden Ring came out is why everyone started copying what it did. The reality is that we're probably going to see some high profile CRPG releases in the next 5 years from companies chasing after BG3.

>>712911854
A lot of people didn't play Gothic 4 or Two Worlds 2 though and a game like Witcher 3 had insane production values which brought in a lot of normalfags and it was their first exposure. It's like how BG3 didn't really do much to set itself apart from other CRPGs other than having stupidly good production values but that was enough to make it be babby's first CRPG. BG3 was novel to a lot of players, to CRPGfags it was just DoS2.5 with worse combat.

Witcher 3 is basically a western visual novel with shitty combat and the most boring world ever designed tacked onto the VN. If the entire game was just Blood and Wine, it wouldโ€™ve been a literal 10/10. But no, hereโ€™s like five different melodramas you have to stay awake through and a lot of horse riding. Not to mention how the Ciri segments are the pacing equivalent of driving an F1 car into a brick wall

>Why is is 500 hours long
Exploring becomes a chore at some point and you're better served just doing the contracts and important quests. It's easy to burn out otherwise.

Worst part of the base game is after you find Ciri. All sense of tension is lost and you just travel all over the continent without using teleportation despite being told the Wild Hunt attack is imminent, the Ciri decisions leading to the good/bad ending are retarded, the entire Radovid storyline is some dumb "he crazy lmao" bullshit disconnected from his character in Witcher 2, Dijkstra betraying Roche in such an idiotic and suicidal way makes no sense whatsoever... It really ended on a sour note, but the dlcs are great and worth it.

"doesn't respect my time" is a perfectly valid criticism for open world trash where 90% of the gameplay is holding down W as your character moves across "omg so pretty" scenery which contains absolutely fucking 0 engaging gameplay content. >going into games that they know are long and then complaining when the game is in fact, long.
No, you illiterate retard. They're complaining about the length being there mostly as a result of shit, shallow gameplay. That's why people meme on games that boast hundreds of hours of "content" and all of it is just dumb cutscenes and walking.

I'd argue that 85% of an open world's projected length is in shitty optional content. If you beeline for the main quests I reckon the time spent wouldn't be too far from the average length of a random singleplayer ps3 game from 2010.

Witcher 3 is amazing but open world was a mistake, they should've gone a more linear way like in 1 and 2. Or at least just stayed in Velen, Skellige fucking sucked

I thought it was common sense that both of the DLCs were better than the main game itself, and better than full games. Iirc, didn't Blood and Wine win RPG of the gear against Dark Souls 3? Not saying that it's actually better because Jeff's awards are a meme by themselves, but to even compare them together says a lot.

Dark Souls 3 was the worst Fromsoft game of all time and a blunder. I wouldn't call it an accomplishment. It's like an average athlete/joe competing in the special olympics and winning lmao.
