Xbox: "Weโ€™ve established a strategic, multi-year agreement with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles. Together, weโ€™re delivering deeper visual quality, immersive gameplay, and AI-powered experiences - grounded in a platform designed for players, not tied to a single store or device, and fully compatible with your existing Xbox game library."

TL;DR: Xbox next gen console will be fully backwards compatible and will have access to Steam and free online, also several third party manufacturers will make Xbox branded PC/Consoles

So microsoft is devolving into creating a "consolized" computer instead of a dedicated Xbox game console? Isn't that what Steam's Linux shit was meant to eventually make?

These partnerships are usually for a period of time or per project, if they want to do something new they must form a new partnership.

AMD on Linux has improved a lot, but it's kind of a weird situation. For CPUs, Intel is by far the better supporter of Linux and if you doubt this you can read through the kernel commits and see tons of people with @intel.com addresses. They routinely, sometimes even more than a year beforehand, update GCC and appropriate kernel code for new architectures and CPUs that aren't even released. In contrast, AMD often waits until *after* launch to do these updates, and for Zen4 it was months afterwards and it was shabby. In fairness, they did pre-update for Zen5, so that's good. For GPUs it's the other way around: Intel's in-kernel driver is complete shit for gaming, development, multimedia (ex. the video encoders, which are very good). They are excellent for infrastructure work, which basically means that they conform tightly to open standards for terminal and desktop forwarding, much better than AMD or Nvidia. For AMD, the in-kernel driver is "their" driver, but there's a catch: the driver is actually jsut forwarding calls to a black-box firmware that's on the GPU itself. It's not actually doing anything of any import. In this way, the AMD in-kernel driver is exactly the same as the Nvidia proprietary driver, except that they keep a notional front-end "open source" within the Linux kernel. Whether you care about that comes down to how you feel about FOSS as a philosophy. Nvidia also has an in-kernel driver, and it's shite, just totally junk unless you only care about seeing a desktop. However, Nvidia's propriety Linux driver is awesome, rock solid, better than Windows and has been for 15 years or longer. But it's completely proprietary except for a tiny bit of code that you can see.

That's kinda the point. Hardly anyone aside wiggers and dudebros care about Xbox, its about bruteforcing a market because they can. The more presence Microsoft has the better in their eyes, even if they bleed billions.

Xbox, xbox 360, and xbone were all sold at a loss until late in their life. They literally always lose more than they make. Microshit is literally just evil and wants to force their moneydick into every market and try to rape it.

Xbox releases more (and arguably better - at least there's some genre variety) games than Playstation. Also, most games available on PS5 can be played on an Xbox Series console.
Right now the only thing Xboxers are missing out on is sony walk n' talk over the shoulder cinematic sloppa, and they'll get those next-gen since the new Xbox will be a PC
