I am halfway through and really enjoying maybe even better than OG, what do you guys think about the game?

I actually like BM quite a lot and always include it in my yearly playthroughs of the series, but its quite divisible with fans of the original. The only thing I really dislike is that the marine's ai seem "dumber" somehow so they're not as fun to fight.
I thought Xen was amazing, but thats the most controversial part of the game, so you'll have to draw your own conclusions.

But I do think its the best way to introduce the series to a new, specially a younger, player.

>the marine's ai seem "dumber"
true a bunch of times in the game when there were big gunfights some marines would just stay still without shooting and moving

I think the first part of Xen is great and an artistic masterpiece, visually. The second part is more visually bland and incredibly long, though, way longer than it should be. Nihilanth's fight is definitely an improvement over the original, at least in my opinion.

a lot of aspects of xen are really good, but my biggest complaint is that it's just too lush and jungley, those are the parts that I feel fit the least

Havent got too Xen yet but from what i've seen dont feel i would like it, in the OG it really represents this weird alien/industrialist evil dimension that i found pretty great

The factory section in Interloper was too long. Too many boring platforming and puzzle sections, jesus.
Other than that I prefer it over the original and I'm happy with all of the changes. They made the Gonarch and the Nihilanth into actual boss battles now.

I enjoy BM quite a lot, but I still prefer the OG. They're both excellent games and worth playing. BM Xen was pretty awesome except for Interloper being way too fucking long.

BM was fun, still think HL1 does combat better.
BM's level design is generally bigger, and enemies, like the Marines, are more accurate hitscans that can run&shoot at the same time. Leads to more "stop&pop" cover shooting gameplay compared to HL1 where you had more cover to weave through and it was moreso about repositioning enemies, like the marines, with your movement and weapons.
That kind of Quake influence mixed with the fast-paced immersive sim light elements are what made me love HL1s combat, and not really gravitate towards BM(and HL2, at least until Ep2)'s combat.

Literally the only remake that's worth playing

The boss battles and certain scripted areas are much better but that's about it. They removed the sovl out of the game in almost every other place and made it a slog to get through. It's a play it once, never touching it again deal.
The original has much better pacing and it's much more fun to get through multiple times.

Zen (and arguably interloper) are worse than On a Rail
On a first playthrough both are about the same. But you can blast through On a Rail at a fairly brisk pace on repeat playthroughs

I never hated Xen in the original game unlike a lot of people. I don't like BM's Xen.

Xen sucks
Interloper sucks
Everything that precedes Xen, however, is good.
The soundtrack is a hit and miss.

its good but it doesn't change enough of the levels at times to fit the new combat and marines aren't as fun to fight overall
>marines are also ugly design wise and feel lazy
>soundtrack is weird at times like during blast pit
>ai was buggy and vorts didnt have any ai when i played through last
its good especially for a fan mod project but no one should say it outright replaces the original

You can beat the entire game without skipping areas in like three hours if you know where to go. Pointing out 1 chapter out of like 15 that's annoying to get through for the first time in the original makes little difference.
Same with the Xen chapters, I don't hate the originals but even if you do you can get through the entire thing in 30 minutes tops. It takes WAY longer to go through that shit in BM, doesn't matter how many times you played it and it sucks ass.

Visually it's fine but they added a bunch of puzzles and made it like 6 hours longer than the original.

Up to the interloper part. Then it turns into pure dogshit.
