Is FF16 a hack n slash or is there limitations in combat compared to shit like Devil May Cry? I kinda wanna get it simply because I heard it's a hack n slash game.

There are some limitations and a pretty awful stagger bar mechanic which means you can't do any launcher combos on human sized boss fights. Otherwise you can do some crazy combos, especially when you get the DLC abilities that allows you to do more jump cancels (you can only do two enemy steps otherwise)

So basically the summons of FF are what you use to swap weapons and shit? What are the summons?

It is much more limited than DMC and even playing it for the first time I thought I'd be having a better time just replaying DMC5. It's not just that it's worse than DMC5, which it is, it's also so derivative of DMC5 that you don't even find any novelty in it. The ways it does differentiate itself from DMC5 are uniformly bad. All that said, I think the combat is the best thing about it, which should tell you a lot about how little I think of the rest of the game.

It's cooldownslop

This should be like 20 bucks at this point on PS5 and Xbox. They are silly still selling it at full price in 2025.

You only have one weapon which is the sword.
Then you have the magic shot too.
You can have three summons equipped at a time, and switching between them is like switching through weapons as DMC3 Vergil by cycling through them.
Although they work more like Dante's styles, giving you new mechanics you can use at all times.
Then you can also unlock abilities from each summon that are special moves that go on a cooldown when you use them.
The summons are:
Phoenix: Mechanic is like Dante's trick, you can teleport to enemies with a slash or a shot and there are various context based moves for this teleport mechanic.
Garuda: Her mechanic is Nero's snatch
Ramuh: His mechanic is like a shotlock from Kingdom Hearts DDD or KH3
Titan: His mechanic is like a block and parry, like Royal Guard
Bahamut: The mechanic is charging up megaflare and getting some dodge move
Shiva: She gets air dashes that can freeze enemies in place. It feels a bit similar to Nero's Gerbera and Dante's air trickster dash
Odin: He lets you replace your sword moveset with Odin's sword which gives you a new basic moveset that you can switch on and off at will. It deals little damage, but every attack builds the Zantetsuken meter which deals massive damage when full.
The DLC also adds two more summons you can switch between

They should put it on gamepass and PS Plus. That might get people to play it. In fact they should put the pixel remaster collection thing of 1-6 on gamepass and PS Plus and the old remasters of 7,8,9,10 and 12. They should be trying to push the Final Fantasy brand more to get people to actually care about Final Fantasy at all so that when FF7 Remake or FF17 comes out there will be people who actually care about Final Fantasy. Because right now the franchise is fucked.

sqex thinks their games are the biggest assets and they keep their jobs for 20 years by releasting remakes. I have no faith with them when they writers are fuck in the head. I just want final 'final fantasy' and be over with it.

It's a story driven hack and slash character action rpg.

Ultima

It's Ultima. Comes in with his own broken-as-hell abilities and some of the flashiest animations in the game. Once you get him, it basically turns into who can delete the screen faster—him or Bahamut. Honestly, once you start weaving his skills into your rotation, juggling cooldowns feels more like a rhythm game. He’s a late-game/post-DLC addition that feels like they tried to one-up all the other Eikons in terms of sheer utility and spectacle.
