There was internet though, and it just ended up getting filled with bots and people who had already went crazy from looking outside. So basically not much different from now.

Not entirely sure, if you check social media on your laptop after a couple days it'll describe how digital photos taken are being corrupted ever since the visitor arrived. It's not really clear what's fucking up the pictures but VHS footage works so it's probably technically possible to upload it to the internet without it coming out unintelligible.
