I think it's extremely good presentation for it's time and console (Original Wii version). The late 00s and early 2010s were very bleak for good jrpgs, and the hype around project rainfall helped boost its popularity. Even better that it doesn't use Am*rican VAs.

Its generally very good in every aspect except the side quests which can be ignored. I would call it a masterpiece in 2010-12 but less so nowadays, especially when the sequels improved on it in multiple ways, both in terms of story and/or gameplay.

Still a very good game. I would compare it to FF7 relatively using Final Fantasy as a reference

I never owned a Wii and still enjoyed the Wii version. Even more the Switch version.
The cutscenes are especially good if you enjoy those in RPGs or liked Xenogears/Xenosaga.

Only semi related: Handheld rpgs on the GBA DS and 3DS are generally held to different standards than the consoles of the time. Golden Sun for example is really nothing to write home about except that it's notably a good presentation on a handheld that normally doesn't have any good rpgs outside of ports.

Story wise it's just a bit of closure for one of the characters but it's cool for what it is. The base game's art style and presentation got absolutely butchered though so I wouldn't recommend it for your first play through.
