Long form story telling isnt doable in video games and all these fucking games do is just try to retell the story. Odyssey was a good step with trying to be a standalone island adventure, but then it went back to just retelling the fucking story but with twists.

Anyway the IP is so fucking kino the video game issue while infuriating is something most people dont press for since the anime is getting much love, the live action as well, and obviously Elbaph has been kino so far.

I thought it was slightly better in terms of power to a GBA but lacked in terms of the screen quality which is why the Color and Crystal came out so quickly. I really would have loved to see it actually come out in the west because it's such an interesting device and almost nothing got Asian English releases. The vertical mode was also a really neat idea. Digimon fans are also stuck with waiting for translation patches to learn about Ryo because his entire backstory is tied to those games.

It’s more of a sidegrade. It had more recent arcs (PW3 ends with a cobbled together Dressrosa, PW4 goes up to a cobbled together Wano) but the combat itself was generally worse, it cuts a LOT of arcs when PW3 covered basically all the major ones, and tons of characters both playable and non-playable got cut out as well. Unless you REALLY want to play as characters that are only in PW4, PW3 is mostly better.

Also, the mission mode was worse IMO. Replacing the SOULful island map with a generic menu was pretty lame and it felt like it took way less time to complete it

Pirate Warriors 1 and whatever PW has the most characters currently are the only PW games worth playing. The latter because of the roster and updated gameplay and PW1 because the story mode's gameplay is significantly different enough to be worth checking out.
