How come it hasnt been back since? Yet buble power, stars, fire flower, giant mushroom,mini mushroom all came back

Does it just not work in 3d? Was it too strong?

Weirdly enough the e-reader world for Super Mario Advance 4 (SMB3) has 2 levels with the cape in it, and actually a few enemies from world too like the chucks. I wish they did that more.

The only consistent power up has always been the OG fire flower. If the devs need a flying ability, they usually come up with something new for each game. You could argue that some "flying" power ups make returns, like the tanooki suit, but that's simply a case of the cute thing winning against the lame cape.

It was OP in levels without ceilings

infinite flight in a 3D game is just broken, at least in a 2D game you have to dodge obstacles in the sky but in a 3D game you can just go around - this is why literally every 3D platformer makes flying extremely limited in some way, in order to make the game interesting again you'd have to make a game entirely designed around flying
