Still one of my favorite ship weapons ever. Never understood how it wasnโ€™t used more by any of these studios.

Yeah, lot of shmups have the typical homing shots, but there's nothing quite like the twisty snake beam that homes, pierces, and covers everything.

Only other game that I can think of that had a violent wildly beam was probably Nier Automata. Then again I havenโ€™t played any modern shmups so maybe Iโ€™m just missing out.

Oh right, the laser pod. Short-range but pierces.
Can't really think of any other shmup with the purple beam except Raiden DX (an updated version of 2) and Raiden 4. Dunno if 5 has it, I never touched it.

I just double-checked and apparently 5 does have the beam, but it mostly just curves left and right and only occasionally does the twisty thing. I probably won't play it, I don't like the idea of a health meter in muh Raiden.

I wish Joe got more releases, both because he's one of the few non-licensed-garbage Toku games out there and because the OST is great. Need more remixes of Joe the Hero, because as it stands, we haven't really gotten a good one since MvC3 (although it's arguably the best one)

I honestly think Raiden 4 is the best one. Brings back the toothpaste beam (which those idiots didn't include in 3), badass soundtrack, and co-op.

With okami getting a sequel there's a slight chance VJ might get some attention
In reality nobody cares enough to get a VJ3 but a simple remastered collection will be good enough since they are 20 years old at this point with no real way of playing them

I liked the original God of War trilogy. I remember you couldn't talk about it without DMC fans jumping on you.
I think they somehow got replaced by Ninja Gaiden fans.

God Tier list.
I recently replayed Ninja Warriors Once Again and its such a masterclass in beat em up design, only problem is Im utter trash at it and cant beat the game as anyone other than Ninja. I love Yaksha's moves but I die as her faster than anyone else.

Only games I'd add you didn't mention would be Spikeout and Assault Spy.

RE4 if you can consider that an action game. I personally see it as a beat-em-up with guns
I love how unlike basically every action game ever it actually has encounter design, rather than just throwing enemies in a bowl or a box-shaped room, it's constantly switching things up in terms of level arrangement
the recent Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound demo was surprisingly good, in the 2D space

You absolutely can. No shade to it, but it is an action game foremost.
