>inb4 successful in japan
meh, the japanese mainly bought it for virtua fighter 2 and sakura wars

1998 was the last year of full releases for the saturn in japan. 99's only notable release was street fighter alpha 3

it has epic 30min shmups that some fag on the internet will force you to 1cc, ports of games you can emulate on mame or fightcade and some actually cool stuff like willy wombat and steamgear mash.

>It beat the n64 handily in japan

n64 had far more million sellers in japan and it also outlasted the saturn in japan. the n64 also had significantly more games released on it in 1999 (and 2000) than the saturn did in japan

Very true post op, that subhuman sega of america ceo never had any of the games people loved in japan translated? Why? Did he not see the massive success of JRPG's like FF7? Why didn't he fucking translate them, he must have been a saboteur. It began as an amazing system for me because I loved arcade games but the pieces of shit at SoA ruined it.

It would have been a waste of money. The launch ruined everything, even if they translated all those games they would've sold poorly

Then they should have just closed down instantly, but no they proceeded to exist and even sold another console here which of course failed as well because why would anyone buy the next console when they didn't translate any games for the last one? They were either completely incompetent retards or willingly malicious to destroy the company.

They couldn't shut down because Saturn was doing well in Japan. And to be fair, Dreamcast did well at first, but as soon as PS2 launched people dropped DC like a sack of shit
Sega's biggest problem is that Japan and the rest of the world were never on the same page, MD/Genesis did well internationally but flopped in Japan, Saturn did well in Japan but flopped internationally, there was a ton of infighting as a result
If MD/Genesis was as much of a success in Japan too things would have turned out very differently.

My personal list has 45 games on it. And that doesn't include fighting games at all.
There'd easily be another dozen if i included them.

Love me saturn. I love 2d games, and the saturn was like a SNES on steroids, the mode 7 style effects were fucking incredible.

NTA but the Saturn's library is far more interesting.
That's what keeps me going. I don't care how many people bought OOT.

Best Sonic game ever made.
And best pre-super metroid Search Action game with Wonderboy 3 which actually set up a lot of tropes that SOTN/metroid then copied.

I'll be honest with you, american anons. You have to realize that n64 had shit games, your favorite goldeneye game is laughable and looks very bad. Mario 64 looks super bad (even though maybe it's not a bad game per se). You should face the truth. 64 is only remembered now because it was popular among poor american kids whose parents couldn't afford a PC. Normal kids played Half-Life 1, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake 2 while you had to endure garbage like perfect dark. Only americans love n64 now even though it was a bad console of its gen with inferior ports and laughably bad exclusives
I'm glad I played on PC and PS1

it's biggest problem was it was $499 in 1995. Its best games were fighting games and it's version of Tomb Raider looked worse. They also didnt do themselves any favors by diluting customer loyalty and good will wasting money and time on 32X and CD.
