Used to be Disney didn't fuck around when they gave out their license for video games, some of them like The Lion King and Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue even hold up pretty well still. Ducktales on NES is another huge one, that license was for Capcom. There's a Lilo & Stitch game on GBA that's a Metal Slug or Alien Hominid clone and is pretty good. Their goofy crossover skateboarding game based off of Tony Hawk Pro Skater. The whole Infinity toys-to-life game was OK for what it was, and they gave Kingdom Hearts a nice shout-out with that 3.0 update that adds a Kingdom Key with magic and limits from KH1.

By and large though Disney stopped caring about making sure everything about their brand was quality and settled for pumping out shitty tie-ins, same as the rest, and it's par for the course that any tie-in games or games period they make are bad. I think the death rattle was probably how much more interesting Epic Mickey's premise and art was compared to the actual product that softballed the idea really hard.

Disney has this weird thing going on where their brands and characters being put in certain media is tarnishing the overall Disney image or brand. Like you'll never see a Mickey Mouse animated movie that gives him an arc, personality, conflict despite Mickey BEING the face of their brand. House of Mouse had all sorts of behind-the-scenes issues for its crossover premise, then theres KH being untapped potential for Disney characters to interact.

They likely see games as lowbrow and something to be worked on by third-parties and not cultivated by anyone under them. Remember, one of the first things they did is destroy LucasArts. They also initially destroyed their 3D animation department that made Dinosaur. Therein lies another issue, Disney owning so much means they can just bank on the success and brand of characters and settings they didn't even create.

Maybe if they had more John Carter or Tomorrowland level bombs they could afford to be more experimental. But that doesn't matter now because they can just nostalgia cashgrab the fuck out of Star Wars or dredge up Robert Downey Jr's cocaine addled visage to star in Avengers 12: This Time Its Personal. So yeah in theory they could dominate the gaming field if they actually tried too, they own an immense library of untapped media. They could do some genuinely fun crossover TV media, games, movie animation but they don't want to.

Ironically enough, those filmes back in the day had a specific niche to cater. These days, they forced to turn this niche into the mainstream and everyone seems cool with that. But, back in the day, things like Aladdin, Hercules, Tarzan and others had their slice.

Of course, Aladdin removed all the dark elements of it, Hercules, for some reason, has the story of Perseus than Hercules himself and They only adapted half of the book of Edgar Rice Burroughs on the actual Disney's Tarzan movie, but the movies were actually nice to see.
