Why do people love Kingdom Hearts 2 so much?

it's got great aesthetics and some of the best cutscenes of any game from that time period. gameplay is good, a cross between an acton RPG and a CUHRAZY game. lots of nostalgia from the disney shit they watched as a kid. chuunicore to the max, with sora/donald/goofy being the only antidote to the EDGE. amazing soundtrack with an absolutely banging and memorable theme song.

I like the gameplay except for...

You're not told that you need to level up Drives to gain abilities like Double Jump. That is a dick move Square Enix.
Hate that the second half of the game is filler going back to the same worlds for no real reason. By the time Sora is returning the Disney worlds he should be trying to find a way into the main villain's headquarters.

Also I storywise I don't like how stupid Sora became, the only mature Sora is KH1 Sora. And I don't like Roxas. Never cared for this shitty character's phony existentialism melodrama shit and it doesn't help that Days made the intro with Roxas even worse, you find out that Hayner, Pence, and Olette were NEVER Roxas' friends. So the intro of KH2 is really annoying filler that you can't skip.

Anyway too bad the series is fucked. Nomura and Nojima and Tai Yasue have done a lot of damage to Kingdom Hearts so if the series starts failing and selling badly its THEIR fault. So many shoddy ideas they kept injecting.

- Inconsistent gameplay quality because of those handheld games which could never match the console games.
- The story becoming awful with bad ideas like time travel, clone characters, and reviving dead characters.

The series will never be same again and once a series as a negative reputation like that where not even fans will defend it, it will die. Kingdom Hearts is enduring the same death as Assassin's Creed it got way too shitty in general and it will simply fail no matter what.

It is a bad thing because the story is continuous and if you scatter a continuous story to multiple handheld devices you WILL divide the fandom.

And about the gameplay of Re: Coded its not much of a consolation prize. Most people don't like the Command Deck style, Re: Coded having the best iteration of it doesn't mean much. Doubly so because the story in this game is pointless.

Anyone else wish that Kingdom Hearts graphics were like this? Hand drawn Nomura artwork with a high budget would be great. I don't really like the graphics Kingdom Hearts 3 and 4 are doing. And no, I don't care about the Quadratum bullshit I just don't like the way the cartoony characters look in KH4. I don't like these visuals.

To me more lively anime visuals seem more appealing. Certainly is making that new Marvel Souls fighting game look good. Kingdom Hearts should have adopted that kind of style visually.

Well the clone characters started in Chain of Memories with Riku Replica and Namine. Then Days introduced Xion the random Kairi clone who is actually a replica clone of Sora that no one knew about. And then you have Roxas who is Ventus' clone its just that you are told he's Sora's clone. And then you have old Master Xehanort and his clones. And I almost forgot there's Vanitas who is the True Darkness but he inexplicably likes looking like a dark clone of Sora.

Clones clone clones! Shit I don't think even Metal Gear has as many clones.

And the worst part is Nomura admitting in an interview he was against bringing back characters like Roxas but he gave in because he wanted to make fans happy. Except doing this is how you ruin the narrative.

And then there's the plot twist that Dark Road introduced that Xehanort is not truly dead since he said he wanted to have a new life to live. There's a good chance Xehanort is in Quadratum along with the other "dead" characters like Strelitzia. And it doesn't help Strelitzia describes Quadratum as a world full of life because Death is a Joke.

When I look at all this bullshit Nomura made I doubt Aerith is dead in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Even if you don't like the Command Decks, Re:Coded has non-floaty, fast-paced button mashing combat with each Keyblade having it's own combo string, it is the closest KH2-like experience and it was on the fucking DS, it definitely deserves the praise for it's gameplay.

The Collections exist for a reason, it was the right move to release some games for the most popular portable devices at the time, I wouldn't be a fan of this cursed franchise if it wasn't for Days, it was the first KH game I've ever played.

For better or worse keyblade wielders are the strongest characters because they are the ones who can do just about anything. But you have to remember that there are skill levels. Kingdom Hearts functions on whoever has the most skill. This is why Sora was able to beat Xehanort who was using the true X Blade.

And the problem is that Nomura himself likes this graphical style Kingdom Hearts 3 introduced. Nomura has been a fan of this Realism Anime style since the movie he directed Advent Children. And many of the works where he's done artwork for have that kind of visual style. Really doesn't work for Kingdom Hearts and I resent Nomura trying to retcon that Sora is now Asian for Kingdom Hearts 4.
