They really fucked up trying to use experimental Unreal 5 technology. Nobody is setup for their stupid world streaming tech. They almost did this with 3 where they were going to use proper ink shaders to make all the shadows and highlights look like a drawing. But they backed out and just did the traditional hand-drawn lines on the textures and outline in the in shader. It would have cratered the performance. They still had problems with particles and the game would regularly crash until it was updated.

This series is the definition of keep it simple and don't change the formula too much. Tim keeps pushing for tech demo aspects so he can advertise unreal.

There are a bunch of Unreal 5 games that are well optimized, the problem is with modern devs refusing to make texture/model graphical settings lower than ultra (although they do have an option on the menu to change it from low to ultra that does nothing, like in doom dark ages and indiana jones)

I'm spending 130 Euros on the PS5 version of Borderlands Super Deluxe Edition and you can't stop me. I just want a game I can keep playing for hours. Stop for a week then on some day grind for 10 hours.
