You guys realize that language is more than just text in a line right? The way it is framed and spoken (and yes, "spoken" can be applied to writing) also influences it.

This isn't an argument whatsoever and it just shows you know nothing about the topic, let alone the series you are posting.
Half the character of JoJo is the unique speech patterns and dialogue of its cast. Hence why your fetish for a translation that was so bad it caused drama over how an incredibly simple ability even worked is misguided and born out of a sense of contrarianism.
To be fair, the translation on the left isn't great either, but it's leagues above the older B&W translations in the simple facet of capturing some of the characterization and presenting a mostly accurate version of Part 5.
Even ignoring that though, the right one is littered with both errors as a manga scanlation and also just as something written in English.
The scan itself is fucking terrible with how washed out everything is, typeset looks to just be generic comic sans, most of the text isn't even properly aligned or fit to the speech bubbles, sentences are being inconsistently carried across speech bubbles, and instead of Mista speaking with his intended personality, he speaks like a genuine retard with how often his redundancies are literally the same thing restated.

Literal translations are the best but those freak non-autists out which is why some level of localization is required for a product you're selling.

"Making shit up in the spirit of the original work" is the most important part of the translator's job because a direct translation that sounds natural is very rarely possible. The problem comes when bad translators take this as an excuse to write fanfiction or insert their retarded opinions.

MTL isn't a solution either because language translation isn't a math problem and AIs are retarded when it comes to anything that requires intuitive thinking. You cannot train an AI "smart" enough to overcome the basic limitations of transcribing meaning from one language to another.

Best solution? Learn 日本語。

Ironically, it worked extremely well when the east is the one making changes, look at japanese crash for example.

The original Gunvolt 1 translation was so bad that when Inti Creates, the company who made the game, hired on an in house translator, he took one look at the translation and was so appalled by it that he begged his boss to let him retranslate it. He redid the whole thing ON HIS FREE TIME and it's version used in every rerelease of the game since.

Point is ,according to context, this shows somebody in two words as either military and/or way using gear centuries out of time.
So that means adding notes or dialogue to elaborate context.
Personal preference goes to obviously using sane equivalents to keep the original flow of the text or leaving as is.
