It's official, "Xbox" is now "Windows". Microsoft is saying that they are phasing out dedicated Xbox Hardware and focusing on gaming handhelds and PCs as the "Xbox" experience. While the Series will still be available for now, Microsoft isn't prioritising it anymore, instead making Windows more gamer friendly.

They already had the "this is an Xbox" campaign, now they are doubling down. This means that there are only 2 real consoles left.

Maybe it was for the best. I don't know anyone who buys consoles anymore.

Xbox was a lost cause so honestly this just seems like the right move for them to do before they lose PC gaming to SteamOS if they keep doing nothing.

Microsoft already owns the most popular gaming platform so why waste money on dying consoles when they have billions of gamers already on windows?

Microsoft will still make an Xbox for next gen but it will probably be their last, you will also see 3rd party Xboxes(non handhelds). They will all run the same OS as the Asus ROG handheld does. Basically a prebuilt PC

To be entirely honest it was not only the xbone fiasco, it was a stream of mistakes and other fuckups nonstop for at least a decade that killed xbox. Sony recovered from a shit start with the ps3. Same as nintendo with the wiiu.

Too little, too late, Valve already won. Windows isn't made for pure gaming like SteamOS is.

Anons forget or were to young to remember, but the PS3 ended up outselling the 360 by the end of the generation. It was that last half when Microsoft started fucking up.

Because the casual gamer doesn’t want a PC. And define “dying console.” Microsoft has always lost money on consoles except for the 360, but they make up for it with game sales and the game pass.

They don't want a $1000 Xbox either.

Nintendo will move to mobile phones soon. Imagine, a Nintendo branded iPhone. Same thing, twice as expensive. Mario kart. Mario kart 3D plus.

Nintendo'd make a Switch that runs on potatoes before they give up hardware entirely. But you're not wrong, they'd totally shill a Joy-Con-compatible iPhone and call it the "N-Phone" with exclusive DRM-locked Mario skins and $59.99 in-app purchases for extra mushrooms. And people would still line up around the block.

They already lost pc gaming to steam. They aren’t going to compete outside of trying to sabotage steam on their OS, which would just blow up in their face.
