Skate 4 has officially been posted to steam and will be in early access soon. It's still going to be released as a free to play after 3 years of development.

It looks very fun I cannot lie, though I am worried about mirco lootbox shit.

I'm looking forward to it, and don't mind the f2p aspect. don't really care about cosmetics, just want to skate around a new city

I hope it will be less janky and mismanaged than Session.
God I wanted Session to be good, but they kept cutting down content, adding new features which didn't work, not fixing any bugs and issues the game is plagued with (abysmal trick detection in campaign, some controllers outright not working, saved replays could only be played if you were on a related map, couldn't watch replays from other maps without starting them first). Later they started to sell the cut content as dlc and selling dlc with like 3 clothing items with some sponsor's logo.

Insider playtester here. Just prepare youeself for one of the most bleak experiences you will have. The scope of the game and variation has fallen off a cliff, realistic controls are a parody of itself, always online, to customize its lootbox tables for free stuff but pony up for premium items, no campaign planned, and you are hardcapped on progress because you can only get so much XP per rotation, then you are stuck until the next rotation which takes 3 days at the time of this post. Shit is bleak as fuck even in its pre alpha state and its only gonna get worse if they are releasing it as early access.

I'm very skeptical of this game. Have any of you been playing the closed betas?

I played in one like a month ago. It's fairly fun but ragdolls and a lot of the physics needed a lot of work. Overall it controlled okay and ran decently on a fairly high end PC. Music selection was decent too and even had a radio channel for Skate 3 music so that was nice. There's a ton of verticality in the game now which is neat, and a lot of focus on the "climb anything" stuff, it's pretty cool being able to just climb to the top of a skycraper and do a flip off of it. That leads me into my biggest complaint I suppose is that hall of meat related things might not be in the game, there's a throwaway line about "technology" making it so people don't feel pain or get hurt anymore (???) so that's why you're able to jump off a skyscraper and faceplant and immediately get back up. Feels inconsequential, very little impact to it.
