It really isn't. Crack Heavy into Light when you run low on Light Crack Light into Petroleum when you run low on Petroleum. And if you really want to get ambitious, crack P into solid fuel if you have excess P and low L and H.

>>713029168 you don't even need to worry about this anymore if you're a new player, since they changed it so you have to start with simple oil processing which only takes oil and spits out p gas there's nothing to get filtered by anymore

I've beaten this game in that I've managed to get functional self sustaining industry on all the planets and clear the tech tree. Still too dumb for trains though.
>>713029627 Just run a belt. Trains are for fancy bases that plan to expand past endgame. Most patches near spawn don't even need more than 2 red belts. It's even more true when playing space age with 240i/s stacked belts that you make practically for free.

>>713031612 I disagree, build them anywhere, flame defences are the best in the game.
>>713032130 What. You use a single splitter and now you have nuclear fuel. Kovarex is nice but certainly isn't necessary. It can however be solved with inserters and splitters.
>>713032236 There's the 235v238 thing, the fact you need sulphuric acid for everything, all the waste, learning the efficient reactor groupings and ratios, there's a fucking website to do the math for you! Is there an oil math website?!
Honestly the early game is so fucking boring to me now I'll probably never play again

I don't even tear everything down and use what I already have I straight up start a new game. How to cure this disease?
>>713028162 (OP) Oil is easy. It starts to get not fun around red circuits. Dips again when you hit blue. Gets gay around nuclear chance technology. Becomes not worth your time at all once you have to start building space ships and restarting from scratch on bullshit planets.

>>713032524 Peaceful or railworld and get one of the mods that starts with shitty robots. When you get tired of the old factory just move over a few screens and plop down a new one. I like packing things into a long train and driving out to big resource patches.

for me it's >Get to Aquilo >Quit playing Having to wait around for multiple hours for ships to ferry themselves back and forth because the planet is a logistics check instead of an engineering one was an annoying design decision
>>713035336 >hours Do you have like one rocket per planet? If you've been researching the productivity bonuses your rockets should be dirt cheap to launch by aquilo. Slap down twenty more silos with beacons and you're good to go. Or do your ships have tiny inventories? Cut it in half and slap on another 50 cargo containers.
>>713028162 (OP) >Get to trains >ummm uuuuuuhhh >Get a bunch of rail blueprints >Try and create a grid with stations >This isn't working >Get bots >Fuck shit uuuuhhh >Build and rebuild whole grid 4 times >Fail miserably >Uninstall rage quit I fucking hate trains
I launched the rocket but to be honest the game gets kind of sloppy near the end for the average player especially if you're doing an honest first play through and not using blueprints because at that point just don't play. The complexity becomes exhausting especially when you start running out of base elements and need to route new sources to old chains.
I don't want to go back and unfuck things that takes 5 hours I want to keep moving forward set things up once and feel comfy and have fun killing bugs. Scaling up production always felt way harder than it should be.

I'm playing Factorio for the first time and I don't understand how people struggle with trains. I keep getting killed by them tho because I like to walk along the tracks >.<
>>713042316 There's a bunch of neat things you can do with trains that make them so stupidly simple that you wonder how you ever lived without it. Interrupts are fantastic for making every new train station a simple copy paste. Empty trains with no valid destination hang out in the depot until a slot opens up at any of the various mining areas. All my item trains are the same size so I can just copy paste them down and off they go to whichever item needs a pickup. Now that wildcard signals exist the train picks the right unloading station based on the name+what it's currently carrying.
I got tired of running out of ammo when parked so I hooked up my turrets to only turn on when the ship moves. The asteroids that bump into the ship barely seem to do anything while it's parked. Put up walls just to be extra safe and brought an extra stack of repair packs.
