Well the retro console emulators on Switch are just Nintendo's cheap knock off of Xbox Gold and Playstation Plus "free games of the month" but it's even worse because on Xbox and Playstation you get triple A games that are recent and on Switch you get a 20 year old ROM that Nintendo probably downloaded themselves from a random website and just reuploaded, it serves two purposes, a cheap incentive for Nintendo to make more money, and a cheap excuse for why Nintendo can legally justify the infinite copyright they have on all of their 20+ year old dead products.

If they do add melee however I hope they add an online mode with ranked mode, and i feel like it would be more popular than Ultimate and whatever Smash Bros. 6 is, and I'd probably get my ass kicked because Melee is the least balanced smash bros game and it also has the highest skill ceiling too lol.

2.) NSO GameCube emulation has severe input delay, which would make the game completely unplayable with Melee's lack of input buffering

Porting Melee is a bit more complicated considering you have to get all the rights again. For specific example, the Proximity Mine and Cloaking device are from Perfect Dark, which is now owned by Microsoft.

Microsoft is happy to work with Nintendo, I really don't see them being an issue. The only problem that might transpire is the necessity to update trademarks in the credits (or somewhere) which I don't think would happen, but for the companies themselves working together-- that's a non-issue.

unless they're getting James Bond in the new smash (which I really want to see), i don't see Melee being a big priority.
If anything it makes the most sense to have the N64 game first, then the new smash.
