Is it worth upgrading my PC despite the 40XX and 50XX series being so underwhelming and overpriced?

No.
Just for the price of a, let's say, 4080, you could buy a switch 2 and a ps5 and lots of games for both.
You'd have to be retarded to spend it on the gpu if money is a concern, not to mention the rest of the components.

You can probably find a good pre-built with a 5070ti and 98/7800X3D for a decent price (note that "decent" does NOT mean good) that would completely transform your pee see experience
Or you can keep playing UFO: Enemy Unknown forever and probably have a better time anyway

9800X3D + RTX 5070 Ti + 32GB RAM + 2TB M.2 SSD and I guessed $2499
I googled and found:

Nice game for people who can't run XCOM 1/2. I liked it in the old days.

If you can afford it and feel you'd get use out of it I think it's not a terrible deal, that's just what it costs now
>>713052502
I have a truly disgusting number of hours in OpenXcom, I wish there were more games like it but everything modern always shaves off the frustrating edges and it always loses something.
Though Jagged Alliance 3 was really good, so I guess not always

Depends, what are you gonna play? I still have my 1060 6gb. I upgraded my 16gb ram 2400mhz for 3200mhz and saw a big difference but im still playing stuff from 4-5 years ago or more. Im just gonna wait for a price reduction on the 5060 16gb when the eventual price decrease from unsold stock happen

You can never pump enough money into a pc! Do it! Just another grand and all your problems will go away, surely!

If you don't want to build a new PC you could throw in a used 3060 12GB in there and still be able to play modern slop. That's what I would have done a year ago already if I were you.

I don't know why people hold on to their original build for so long when one of the biggest advantages of PC is the possibility to upgrade over time. You don't need have to suffer, buy some RAM, buy a previous gen used GPU, get a better CPU on the used market. Just don't overpay and do it smartly, if you have to upgrade everything at once and it costs you $700 then maybe it's time for a new build but if it's just $200 for a GPU or $30 for some extra RAM why not do it?

Not him but I don't upgrade outside maybe just the GPU or storage. Last two builds upgrading required a new mobo to support the thing I actually wanted to upgrade. At that point I might as well do a whole rebuild. Last time it was CPU (switching to AMD after a 10700k) and the build before that I needed a new mobo cause the one I had only had ddr3 ram support.

well apparently rubin architecture 60xx isn't coming until 2027 so might be wise to upgrade now and then do a mid-gen gpu refresh in '28 or '29 instead of waiting 6-7 years to upgrade fully again

yes it is but dont upgrade the gpu unless you find something 2nd hand in the 30 series. That CPU is trash get a new mobo ram and cpu
id go amd for the cpu because intels e-core vs p-core shit is honestly hot garbage, just make good cores, don't make more shitty underpowered cores just so you can just say number go up
but yeah not worth buying a 40xx or 50xx card, esp at retail. AMD has some good cards but their software is aids so keep DDU on standby.

dumbest post I've ever read. a switch 2 and a ps5 and 0 games, maybe. or a gpu and pirate any game you want and emulate 98% of every game ever made
consoles are fucking dogshit even if the games were free
>>713051582 (OP)
yes it's worth it, retard. congratulations you fell for the memes. 50XX is only underwhelming if you already had a 40XX. the 40XX was a great gen regardless despite being expensive. coming from an old ass poverty gpu even the 50XX is good.
