They are franchise-destroyers and because they are played socially, they devolved every in-game universe into a fun theme park where everyone can be silly together. It's hard to take the idea of fighting these big epic battles seriously when you start doing them every day to farm the loot or whatever.

Video games work on immersion and MMOs destroy immersion in favor of socialization.

Mobage is more profitable so they started to move there. There are many MMOs on mobile.
