Mario Kart World online reminds me a lot of early Smash Ultimate online. It would throw you into FFAs when you wanted 1v1s because it didn't realize people who wanted 1v1s REALLY want 1v1s. My guess is they'll see everyone queuing all random and realize people want traditional laps as an option.

Almost none of this involves adding new content that's not already in or working off the base game. Only hole I'm not sure how to patch right now is the disappointing Battle Mode. That's likely going to remain fucked. Even if they added better maps and modes for it, you still got the awkward segmented tracks sticking around.

Let 3-lap tracks pop up much more frequently online. I know you can pick random, but most people don't seem to know or care. They like to actually pick a choice. I'm fine with the in-between tracks every once in awhile, but I don't want to do them five times in a row.

Item balance needs to be heavily reworked, it's maddening how feast or famine being in the first few places is when you can get crazy shit like triple red shells in 2nd or just get a coin or useless feather as if you were in 1st. So many single green shells and bananas when I'm in 4th or 5th place too. On the opposite end, Mushrooms are absurdly powerful for how relatively common they are and could probably be made a bit harder to get your hands on. Boo needs to be made something you can only get near the back. Buff Bullet Bill and the Star speed. Make feather give a miniturbo on landing or something rather than killing your momentum by default.

Also there needs to be some kind of dedicated button bind for signalling that you want the item roll now, mashing to get it to roll early almost always results in just using the item immediately on accident.

With how many routes are in the game they could probably throw together some random Grand Prix and Knockout Tours with existing stages remixed around. A randomized one would be the tits.

Bad idea. Everyone hates blue shells in theory but in practice they're essential to the MK experience psychologically. Watching even the pros play it on Youtube, their cheeks are fucking clenching in first place waiting for the blue shell. People think they want blue shells gone but the second you take them away people would get bored.

City Trial like mode where you collect upgrades and then get at the end a handful of challenges.
I hate it with a passion but they could even do a BR mode with upgrades for stats and balloons with the circle becoming smaller but it moves around turning the game into a survival race towards the end.

the fact that they have
1. an open world that has no meaningful rewards
2. karts and characters that are unlocked in incredibly stupid ways
and never thought to put the two together is absolutely baffling, between that and the lacking amount of costumes (only 1 for donkey fucking kong of all characters) makes the game seem incredibly underbaked (from an outsider's perspective, of course)
also i've heard people say grand prix should be 3-lap races while knockout tour should be the place for the connected tracks to differentiate and make shit less stale and that's another thing i can't see them doing, feels like these are issues you can't really smooth over after release which again makes the game seem unfinished
also tricking and grinding seem to be a waste of time and i actually did feel that in the hour or so i played at a friend's house but that they probably can tweak
so yeah, tweak grinding and add more costumes is all i can realistically see them doing, and they seem like bandaids rather than real fixes
