I think Dark Souls is the "objectively" better game, but there is something very special and magical about Demon's Souls that DaS just can't replicate.

First half of Dark Souls is better, but Demon's Souls is the better game on average.

Demon's Souls has some really novel ideas, I love how world tendency works and it's a lot of fun on replays because you can get wonky experiences. The more puzzle like but easier bosses also kept things interesting. But the game also feels very gimmicky, and the lack of poise makes it feels cheesy to play too. I think the latter games all surpass it technically, but the aforementioned elements make it really memorable still.

It feels like a rough prototype for what would come next.
It nails the raw atmosphere and music better imo but in every other aspect I prefer DaS1. Shame that Bluehole mangled both of those things, so newfags won't truly get why people like DeS so much.

What is it with these sudden influx of threads shitting on older souls games in general? I swear I've seen 6-7 different ds2 threads today alone

i prefer dark souls 1 because of its open interconnected world design which still has not been explored in another game, and it was the peak of the experimental online features out of all their games. it was also my first, but played DeS right afterwards on my ps3. I dont like comparing which one is better or worse as they are both extremely good in their own way, but also come with their own unique shortcomings. Dark Souls 1 feels a little bit more refined, though, but DeS is not far behind for me and I prefer many things about it like the soundtrack and art direction (slightly).

It would be better if I didn't have to farm grass, maybe. Actually no, nevermind.

as in movement, animations, mechanics and all around pacing of game progression is a lot more interesting in dark souls 1 to me than DeS. I admire the idea of World and Character Tendency but is implemented in a very uninteresting way and insanely obtuse and vague way. I prefer the repurposing of that system into the Gravelord covenant, for example. The exploration is also just more interesting with Dark Souls 1 to me by far. Lore and story is much more interesting compared to DeS, even disregarding the existence of DS2 and 3. I find the bosses and their creature design a lot more memorable in DeS, though mechanically they are quite boring.

I remember liking demon souls because there was an item you could get that gave you mana regen and you could play a pure mage if you were patient enough. The dark souls games had spell charges/MP recovery items which was fine if you had deep pockets.
If you were patient enough you could play a pure mage without limits on your magic. I beat Phalanx with all mage attacks and it was fun.

It's too fragmented, the gamefeel isn't as good and the story thematics aren't as gripping.

That said, its best levels mog DaS best levels.

For me movement and level design just feels more satisfying in Demon's Souls, I dunno. I know people like the "weight" of Dark Souls player movement but it's just slow as shit when you compare it to DeS.
I will grant that DaS probably had better balance overall when it came to things like defense. Also MP is better than spell charges, I'll die on that fucking hill.

Levels being disconnected is a good thing since it actually allows you to be creative with the stages. Dark Souls doesn't have near as much variety in environs because "well we have to make this make sense somehow, it's all interconnected".
Notice how the best content in Dark Souls is the disconnected shit like Anor Londo, Painted World, Artorias DLC.

Worse. Demon's Souls is definitely worth playing if you haven't as a fan of the franchise but it's just not that good. It's no where near DaS2 bad but besides it's incredible atmosphere and enemy/boss design, the game is boring and easy. The bosses aren't fun though some of them are creative, and the level design while also creative isn't very fun either.
Really cool looking game that aged great in that regard, but just not very fun to play compared to almost everything else in the series.

DeS is worse in almost every way. The bosses, the areas, the exploration, weapons, armors etc. the world tendency mechanic would be cool if it wasnt so dumb (forces you to play offline and in soul form if you dont want to miss certain things) but it was still a lot of fun for me
