I was able to beat the game just fine, but there is a steep dropoff of cool novel guns in favor of GUN YOUVE SEEN 1000X WITH BIGGER NUMBER, Borderlands 2 is the perfect example of how you dont need 80 kajillion guns if you can make like 10 good ones.

Borderlands as a series are bad games, but calling them bad seems a bit extreme. Its no Ninja Gaiden Yaiba, theyre perfectly playable games with working quests and bosses and shit, they just fuckin stink. Theyre like the tomb raider reboot where the game practically plays itself and you go through the motions and then its over. The games big selling point being "we tied a guns stats to a random number generator" isnt anything worthy of praise

Afaik no updates have been pushed, but funnily enough what you described has already happened to the game. After BL2's DLCs had ended years ago, they decided to make one last expansion to tie the story to BL3. Unfortunately, the last expansion increased the level cap and broke the endgame leveling system for the previous DLC. Unless you own the newest DLC, OP levels don't work. You can work around it with mods, but it was never officially fixed.
