I've had this suspicion too. Whereas HE'S development was so transparent they made an 8-hour commentary on it, the devs were strangely quiet about MD, even to this day, and most of them left after it came out.

Let me give you an example. There is a side quest in the game about a grandpa who wants to see his grandkid but his bigot son in law won't let him. That's because during the aug incident he smashed the other grandson to death on concrete. The game presents this to make you feel sorry for him. There is no option to side with the son in law.

50 million people got killed by augs and now people are understandably too afraid to ride the train with them. Instead of actually exploring this like Deus Ex 1 would have, the devs just call them bigots. Then you go to the ghetto and get lectured on police brutality by a sassy black lady doctor.

It is a literal propaganda game and you have to turn your brain off to enjoy it.
