The forced monster encounters leading up to Ultima are harder than Ultima.
Omega can be cheesed pretty easily but hes hard as fuck otherwise especially on the OG ps1 version where hes always level 100. Hes the only actually challenging boss in FF8 aside from maybe that tank in the missile base or Edea disc 2 if you're unprepared.

ozma (ff9) is the most fun. dont fight him at the end game, try beat him earlier, as soon as you can get to him

ultima weapon from ff8 is kinda easy but if you're trying to draw ultimas he's hard

omega weapon from ff8 is a decent challenge if you're not cheating by using hero drinks/certain limit breaks

emerald weapon without resorting to cheese methods is a decent challenge (knights of round spam, cait sith etc)

ruby weapon without resorting to cheese can also be sort of challenging (if you havent spammed sources to get OP)

ffx dark aeons and the arena final bosses/penance are probably the hardest. try to beat them all without yojimbo and wakka

all pretty easy at the end of the day, but as a "normal" well adjusted human who isn't a sperg or sweat, those things should be a fun challenge

Ruby has a cheap trick. If you get party members up to 9999 health, he does an attack that does 2222 damage, putting you in lucky 7s mode (meaning 7777 damage on every swing). Double Cut maxed and Tifa limit breaking makes it sexy).

minimum exp run is fun
dio's challenge to cloud at the battle arena was really tough to work out, but my lvl 8 cloud managed to clear it. aeris won him omnislash because no way could i consistently win with cloud, the little bitch. all exp goes to aeris cause that skank goes tits up half way though the game, allowing her to soak up unavoidable experience, such as with bosses or learning enemy skills.

Emerald weapon is all lucky 7s fodder
Ruby weapon is the actual super boss and can fuck you up just by you having all your party members alive at the start

The last time I played VII the mechanics finally clicked enough that I beat Ruby with no guide. The trick is to use a master summon as well as KOTR to get a healing as well as counter attack, then mime if you get a turn. Ruby is an asshole that can break out of it really fast since its tied to dexterity and his stats are so high that his Ultima can wipe you even from high 7k hp. Nah, easy speedrun trick is to have Yuffie with her ultimate weapon conformer on your party, enter any fight on world map, manipulate the enemy so they wont attack and then just lower characters health close to 7677, low level enemies do like 2-7 dmg to you at that point so you can just get 7680 or something like that and thats when Yuffie comes in. If she has her ultimate weapon equipped, she only does 1 dmg to party members, you can just chip the hp to 7677 to the characters you want and then escape battle. After that you are one potion away from mayhem. This way you can kill Emerald in under a minute with Barrets ungarmax and mime

Zidane is the most powerful FF main character. Everyone besmirches him because the encounter loading screens in his game sucks, and that makes FF9 suck. But think about it. Kuja razed a planet with Ultima. Grand Lethal looks very similar to Ultima, and they're bred from the same stock. Grand Lethal is a planet buster, and denying it is retarded. In power tier lists people wank Cloud for being able to parry bullets or Butz for being fucking awesome or Cecil because people love FF4 even though Cecil sucks. I beat Emerald in straight combat like a decade after finishing FFVII. I think I used quadra-magic and Demi to bring his HP down and then killed him with physical attacks. Used limits to kill the eyes that woke up.

I don't remember how I beat ruby weapon, I think it was spamming omnislash as Cloud. But it was shortly after Emerald because it was my revenge run on bosses I couldn't beat as a kid.

Never finished off Omega because I've yet to fully replay FFVIII and get back to him, I finished the game on release and was going to kill him with a huge stockpile of Holy Wars but felt like that was cheesing it.

Airetam deals fixed damage based on number of materia the character has equipped. If you have max HP 9999, you can equip 9 or less materia per character, and most likely one of them being HP plus to get to max health of 9999.

Easy way to kill Emerald outside glitched weapons of Vincent and Barret's, is simply use multi-attacks 4xCut and Slash All, with Counter Attacks and Limit Breaks.

When I was younger I would go through the effort of setting up multi-KOTR and Final Attack+Phoenix. But as and adult, I simply use Cloud, Barret and Cid because of their high attack and multi-hit limits. If you multi-attack and Limit Break, and have less than 9 materia per character, you can easily kill Emerald faster than with KOTR and Phoenix+Final Attack

For Ruby, Dazer items work on it. And with W-Item glitch you can multiply your Dazer stock during the battle.

FF6 didn't really have optional superbosses. The dinosaur forest was good place to level up and I agree the fights were hard but neither the t rex nor brachiosaur had boss with gimmicks vibes. They were simply strong random enemies.

i literally completed my blind playthrough of 7. this game is so ass i had to look up a guide to tell me that i could walk on a fucking pixel. this game is also unbelievably easy, to the point where i have no clue if ultima is even a good materia. its pathetic.

the graphics are trash even for a ps1, they were problaly fine at the time but its like saying mario 64 doesnt look like dogshit. 6 easily clears it with actual spritework and sht that isnt compressed to the nth degree

Bros I had a 100% run (everything except the last fights).
I beat Emerald weapon and when I went into the town to trade it in for the materia.
When leaving Kalm, my disc would freeze.
There was nothing wrong with the disc, it would just freeze.

I got so upset I never played this game again, that was like thirty years ago.

Ruby weapon yeah using the weird 4x cut and counter setup. Emerald was a complete pushover by comparison. It literally never used the materia beam on me no matter how many times I fought it and even if it did it was still easy to beat.

Realistically some people will in fact NOT equip an armor with most materia slots in order to put on as many materias as possible. It's just you mate.

Enemy Skill materia is your friend. Takes only one materia slot and has Big Guard giving you Barrier, MBarrier and Haste to whole party. Outside the Weapons' battle, Enemy Skill also has multiple party hitting elemental attacks, White Wind, Bad Breath and so on. I didnt realize how OP enemy skill is until my 2nd playthrough

so you're telling me that during a boss fight, you looked at the name of an attack, noted its importance, subsequently took it as a word game and then by happenstance you used it as a clue together with the damage the attack did to figure out the most unique and obscure mechanic in the entire game?

I did it too the first time I ever faced it, fast forward 20 years later and I killed it properly. Turns out he is actually super easy, you're just not allowed to deviate from the strategy or at least it's hard to recover properly, especially in second phase.
