2nd one has slightly worse atmosphere but improved gameplay, up to the point where you unlock stabbing from a corner then the gameplay becomes shit again because there is zero reason to use any other tactic

I didn't like it. Was promised RE4 but with actual horror but the gameplay was nothing alike, the game controls weird, the resources you get given the amount of enemies you have to deal with is not enough, the hide and seek sections sucked, I remember dropping it halfway through because I was simultaneously bored and annoyed by the gameplay. And the story and writing were so uninteresting that I don't even remember the MCs name.

You actually don't have to link a Bethesda.net account, but the process to get it functional is a pain in the ass regardless unless you're fine with just playing on console on default FOV.

The TL;DR is you need both The Steam Version + The Game Pass Version, you have to download both and then cut + paste (not copy) the files from the Game Pass version to the steam folder after you've already launched the game pass version once, you also need to add a little notepad so steam doesn't detect the wrong files and tries to auto-repair them, the reason why you need to do this is because The Steam Version doesn't have any of the new features/ content/optimizations, but the Game Pass version doesn't have console commands which are required for fixing FOV, mouse sensitivity, and mouse smoothing.

Oh and if you ever restart the xbox app on your PC or your computer, you have to cut and paste the files back into the game pass folder, and then repair it, and then cut and paste it back into the steam version.

I am 100% serious by the way. Bethesda.net is not required at all.

I already owned the complete edition on steam and recently got a PC upgrade so I figured i'd spend the dollar for the game pass trial to try and beat the game within 14 days to get it over with, it's been fun.

I think it feels fine, it's not really scary though this is true
>the game controls weird
They fixed this
>the resources you get given the amount of enemies you have to deal with is not enough
I'm not sure if you're wrong or if they fixed this, but this isn't a problem at all
>the hide and seek sections sucked
I'm on chapter 9/15 and there was only 1 hide and seek section so far and it was literally in the beginning of the game, yes it did suck but once you get past that, pretty much the entire game from then stealth isn't even really necessary at all, and combat works very well for most scenarios
>I remember dropping it halfway through because I was simultaneously bored and annoyed by the gameplay
I get not liking the original version when it came out, but the gameplay and just feel of the game with all the updates/upgrades feel great to me, i'm planning on beating it, might even do NG+ and the DLC's aswell.

I have never played Evil Within cause it didn't look interesting. But lately I've been going through Shinji Mikami's catalogue and I'm curious to know what actually makes Evil Within's gameplay unique? Because from all the footage I've seen it just looks like a completely standard shooter game, but Shinji Mikami has always explored new gameplay systems in his games such as God Hand, PN03, Vanquish, RE4 and so on.

>what actually makes Evil Within's gameplay unique
That's the funny thing, it isn't
It's basically a 3rd person shooter with jank mechanics like burning bodies to keep them dead and shitty stealth
The "unique" thing is more of the atmosphere, the 1st game feels like a very long horror inception movie
Anonymous No.713155891 [Report] >>713155942
>>713155564
>>713155780
Yeah it's not really a "unique" game, it was made during a time where there was a resident evil like game drought so to speak, and it was meant to quench the thirst of people into stuff like that.

I mean even nowadays all we have is Resident Evil and The Silent Hill Remakes.

I guess it's like playing Lords of The Fallen after you've already played all the From Software games a bunch, and are burnt out but want something similar but different.

Well you have to understand the context of it
it was released in 2014 and even though it feels standard now, it felt like a breath of fresh fucking air because all the horror games were basically shooters like dead space 3 or RE6
He left to make his own shit, made a more traditional horror game and fucked off, so it's about right
Anonymous No.713156360 [Report] >>713156732
>>713155942
I guess in terms of unique things the game has to offer the burning bodies thing is the most unique, it's not really to "keep them dead" like >>713155780 says, it's more of an offensive way to kill them early if you knocked them down to conserve ammo, or in some cases very very early in the game to check if a dead body is pretending to be alive and then burning them before they come alive, it can also be used to burn some bodies to get a secret item or something of that nature, other than that I guess you could say the setting is unique? Personally I don't find the setting very interesting, visually it doesn't look unique but technically because of the plot it is "unique" but yeah. I think with all the upgrades the game has gotten since release it is a game worth playing if you haven't played it before, only issue is on PC, as >>713147432 mentioned, if you want it running properly with all the features and running well, it's a pain to get running, and not many people would be willing to do all that for a good experience on a Resident Evil clone.
Anonymous No.713156475 [Report] >>713156708
>>713144974 (OP)
I wish the entire game was more like the intro from 1. That was an actual well-designed, well-developed gameplay section where you had limited movement speed and other problems and had to deal with them.
The game immediately squanders this goodwill the moment you make it out of that initial room.

Another unique thing is that there's this back room area in the Safe Room area where you open up morgue body storage things in order to get an item, you find keys from breaking hidden statues in the world, usually it's just ammo and upgrade points but it's unique kinda. Although some people might just view it as a lootbox esque type mechanic.

Controls were never "fixed". Seb feeling as sluggish as RE4make Leon is the same in all versions both original, and gamepass + later versions.
Evil Within always gave you just enough resources. The problem was that you had to know where those fixed drops, because the game was made for replays.
>>713147037
All the "improvements" the gamepass and later versions did are a fucking joke.
3 second sprint was always a problem parroted by fucking morons. Sprinting is worthless no matter how long it took. Your sprint speed is barely any faster than the default. The levels are linear and microscopic, and you can easily outrun everything even with default movement even on nightmare and above. Its only practical usage is limited to maybe running up stairs a little faster during Ruvik's mansion, or boosting off ledges in the final gauntlet.
When you do an unupgraded run, which is trivial because of how unreliant the game is with stats in the first place, the only thing you'll miss is fire rate upgrades.
First person mode is a fucking joke. I immediately turned this shit off when the player's head clipped in during a door opening animation. Perspective or even the fucking letterbox was never the core issue of the game to begin with.
Both infinite ammo and first person were available via consolecommand anyway.

I would rather play with a jank first person than without personally, i'm already on Chapter 13, played the whole game with it so far, tweaked the FOV, turned off mouth smoothing, and used sensitivity converters to make it something similar to the rest of the games I play, the game/controls doesn't necessarily feel jankier/less smooth than a lot of other games, it's about as smooth as like DayZ for example, is it as smooth as Call of Duty, Fortnite, or DOOM, or something like that? Of course not but it's not like OG Resident Evil 1 on PS1 tier by any means. I think even Dead Space 1 was more janky/tanky than this.

60fps on console and the JP dub available on an uncensored version of the game would have absolutely made it worth it to me. Although likely it would have just been a performance upgrade with a costume and a weapon or two thrown in.

It's in my top 5 games idgaf. Presentation and atmosphere is top notch. Gameplay is addictive if you like resource management.

>the game easier overall and changes some things
There is fuck all gameplay related they changed to make it easier.
The only functional changes are the longer sprint and a first person mode.
The game is the same shit from 2014, and the supposed performance improvement is fucking snakeoil if there ever was one.
