I enjoyed it a LOT more when I replayed it this year. Low ammo is still bollocks, and the DLC is kinda shite, but it's a decent follow up to 2016

Shit take because TAG2 is way more fun of a gameplay experience even if it doesn't have the same visual polish of TAG1 which was itself a much worse dlc. TAG1 is a repetitive slog with copy and paste design everywhere to pad out the levels. The dive suit in TAG1 was an especially pointless and retarded addition that added nothing and contradicts other non-contaminated water gameplay but still exists in a half-baked manner. The endless fog in Blood Swamp is also not fun outside of Master Level gimmick bullshit. Meanwhile, the meathook points made platforming way more fun in TAG2 compared to the rest of the game and the sentinel hammer was an excellent addition in how it perfectly synergizes with the existing toolkit and new enemies and TAG2 also perfectly wraps up the betrayer's storyline from the main campaign.
Speaking of which, the sentinel hammer is way, way, way, way more fun than the crucible sword so to answer OP's question

Make the crucible sword a cutscene only item, make the sentinel hammer the late game melee weapon of the entire campaign but increase the number of actions to recharge it from just 2 actions to 3 actions, and make blood punches that interrupt a guranteed glory kill give you 1/3rd of your recharge back to make up for how janky this particular interaction is even after patches.

You regenerate your dash in midair, no having to touch the ground
Using the chainsaw now always uses the recharging point first, the last two are used only if it's on cool down or for an instant kill

The game is broken enough as it is without introducing new broken movement tech, plus you do regain your dashes from midair glory kills.

So you want the recharge pip to constantly be recharging while still having extra pips ready to go at any time you need ammo with even more fuel tanks available on the battlefield? This would make ammo replenishment completely trivial and destroy the balance of the game.
