How in gods name was I supposed to know that in order to get the code I needed, I'm supposed to click on a bunch of random paintings scattered across the GIGANTIC map until they showed me individual numbers from the code
has anyone actually beaten this game? why does no one talk about how insanely obtuse it is?

a terminal is an area, terminals refers to multiple instances of a single thing
and in most fucking sci-fi games, terminals is used as another word for monitor, computer or screen that is typically built for one use and for use by multiple people

have to disagree.
of course the game is meant to be played alone for the first time but after multiple playthroughs, playing the game in multiplayer adds hilarity and lightheartedness. however the constant crashes and desync issues made it a pain in the ass to get it working properly.

I get your struggle but when you see a giant fucking "3" plastered in one of the corners of the room that's generally immediately flagged as a code component. The shittiest part about gathering this info is that you generally have to run through it twice with infinitely respawning enemies because the game doesn't tell you you need a code when you enter the area

I rarely talk about it because many people didn't play it or finish it. It falls off hard in the finale, personally, which kills all motivation for replays.
It succeeds greatly on atmosphere and design, and Shodan is fantastic, but I found combat dull.

It's a incredibly small level that I can't call it poorly designed either. I do praise it for the illusion of depth that the darkness creates.

It shines in the 2nd half when your return and have to navigate the panel mazes while Security 1 bots patrol. The invso mutants aren't a big enough nuisance for me to be irate with them especially with one of the best weapons being on the same floor

Invisible enemies are interesting concept and you get rapier on the same level as they appear at so all the challenge is gone right away anyway. The same stream I believe anon is referencing mentioned they put Cyborg Assassin in annoying positions to be dicks.

This reminds me of the Conker dev LP when they said they were hardcore back then and modern gamers would cry about it if they made it now. They also admit that they suck shit at the game and would probably tone down the difficulty, but that's because they suck shit at it as old men

The rapier is hidden on the deck so that's not entirely fair. You also need to find the light attachment to even see on that level. Now imagine doing this back in 1995 using keyboard controls and an extremely low resolution. The invisible mutants respawn instantly and fire silent projectiles. There's no surgical unit on the level either. The rest of the game is no where near as dickish as that level except perhaps for some of shodan's traps. But yes, if I was playing the modern version with customizable controls, mouselook, high resolution, high framerate and I knew where the rapier was it becomes trivial.

It's the first door to your left. The keyboard controls are non issue. Yes, I've played this and their other games like this. I never not reached this place without the flashlight, I think you might find one here too but you can also use the night vision patches.

The only thing I can't speak is low fps and resolution. I still won't say this the worst floor. Level 7 is worse due to it's more confusing layout and Cyborg Enforcers melting your hp if you don't ambush them

And then up a ladder and through some tunnels but it's guarded by a security bot 1 to dissuade you. I don't think a lot of people took that route to begin with so their resources would just be drained by constant attacks.

Engineering is well lit and has a lot of corners you can lean around. Plus you have all your gadgets and seriously powerful weapons by then. Another thing is those particular enemies actually make a noise as you approach their vicinity. Harder to navigate than every other level, sure.

A plain view ladder and a single hallway with a dead end. You already have a mag pulse at this point. The Security bot has no chance.

Even IF you don't have the resources, Shock 1 doesn't block much to the player. You can easily dash to the Executive floor.

Theyre worth checking out since theyre the only notable fms outside of Return to the UNN. Terri Brosius actually provided new lines and dubbed over the SHODAN lines in Ponterbee and Nightwalker which is really cool.

Youโ€™re supposed to listen to the audio logs instead of just putting them on in the background and wait for the objective to update.

Wow, really? I remember beating the game, but SHODAN wasn't voiced by Terri. Gonna check it out for sure.

It's spelled out in at least one audio log, probably multiple ones

enemy damage is not the problem, the problem is Energy weapons suck dick outside of putting 1 point for the laser pistol to have something to shoot cameras/droids with. Exotic skill is also redundant, despite being a requirement for the strongest melee weapon in the game. Heavy skill gives you a godlike grenade launcher, a completely useless weapon and a BFG that gets outclassed by the Assault Rifle (which, admittedly, is too good at what it does)

Game's quite unforgiving at the start but soon you'll see all the hybrids as loot pinatas. The difficulty curve follows a sinusoid pattern at least until you get the Assault Rifle, which is OP

I don't get why people obsess over the Crystal Shard. Laser Rapier has way longer reach.

>but muh overhead smash
Overhead smash is an awful nuisance due to how slow it is.

Laser Rapier has bad damage against organics, not really a problem if you want to invest in the typical melee skills and psi spells but it's still the weakest melee for normal characters without all that stuff. It's upside of doing more damage to bots kinda stinks because they all blow up in your face outside of midwives and assassins so you shouldnt melee them to begin with.

An audio log right by two of the monitors tells you.

Overcharged Laser Pistol with decent Energy weapons skills will one-shot most enemies, and the Laser Rapier with some Psi powers (which can last like 5+ minutes per cast) will decimate even the Rumblers while inside The Many.

>Overcharged Laser Pistol
My favorite way to play SS2 lately is to play energy only and carry a bunch of laser pistols all set to Overcharge. You nuke everything in the game by swapping between them while one is on cooldown. 3-4 lets you deal with basically any enemg but you'll need to make sure they're all at least mod level 1.

No. If they had known what a mouth breather the average target audience is, they definitely would have dumbed it down. Ken Levine is notorious for aggressively dumbing down bioshock due to the experience from sshock2

Rapier has longer reach but only deals half damage to annelids. It's great for taking out cyborg assassins I guess
