What's your favorite RTS to play a quick skirmish in?

Tempest Rising is on sale on Steam. Can anyone recommend?

It copies classic C&C down to needing silos for resource caps and adds a buncha micro with multiple abilities per unit. I didn't find it that fun because it looks like ass. Rather just play RA2.

I used to have an RA2 save vs 3 hard bots that I just load over and over again. I probably had something like 500+ hours on that particular save. I've never played any other map.

Also something like few hundred hours in battle realms playing 4v4 bots.

Mostly because 'quick skirmish' can be anything from over in 15 minutes or over in 15 hours depending on what I want to do

I need to try this. I always liked playing WBC, but it felt bloated and imbalanced.

But 2 and 3 are utterly imbalanced. It's just part of the game
Protectors mod is a bit more balanced in some ways and a but unbalanced in others
AI is overall better and doesn't cheat at lower levels which is nice

Sins of a Solar Empire if it didn't run like absolute dogshit.

Homeworld 2 me + 2 CPUs vs. 3CPUs.

If a bit longer then Red Alert Remastered me vs. 7 CPUs on a custom map I made with a single chokepoint so I have to defend against hordes of poorly pathfinding tanks.

The AI can be pretty crafty 1vs1 on a small map. I got it working on an old laptop but can't remember what I did to make it work on my other PC. Zero Hour would never run unfortunately.

I think some mods add it for singleplayer, but genpatcher is made for MP sweats so it doesn't allow it.

Vinci campaign is great. The other two are not so good

Without a doubt, this is the pinnacle of strategies at the time of 2000. But it's still kinda clunky

I played AoE3 nearly every day last year on increasingly higher difficulties, eventually reaching the hardest (which is actually the second highest level). At that level the computer starts being actually interesting to play against, being able to kite and raid, but it countered my favorite Chinese civ a little too well and also cheated, so I got burnt out.

Just bought it. Looks kino. Honestly we need to support more RTS games, especially ones that pour their heart and soul into. We can't expect new franchises to always pull the legwork especially in depreciated gaming genres.

For a genre that's mostly dead, 2024 had some good hits. Starship Troopers and Last Train Home were both pretty neat.
